  1. Its not that weird. Let kids be kids. Dont need social media for that

  2. Social media is one of the worst things to happen to society thb. There’s so much misinformation and disinformation and bullying on social sites, and especially these days when half the content comes from bots and AI, it should have been blocked from kids years ago

  3. How would it be controlled? Would you need id verification to access social media websites?

  4. So whos gonna create all that skibidi toilet stuff from now on?

  5. Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I don’t honestly see how the fuck they’re going to pull this off. To me it seems like populism and it’ll just make things more difficult, but I am happy to be proven wrong. Hell, if it works, ban it for everybody.

  6. six-seven!!!!

Also tax those social media and global tax firms. They don’t pay taxes on the profits they make from Finnish userbase.

  7. I agree with this completely. Social media can be super damaging to people’s mental health, and fosters unrealistic body image for women. I’m not sure how they plan to implement it though. If it requires an ID upload then it’s sort of a security risk.

  8. This is such a fucking stupid idea and I don’t get how people are supporting this. All of these “restrictions” should be the parent’s responsibility, not the governments. They just want more control over the people. Get a fucking grip

  9. Benefits, obvious. Problems: 1. that just means they are INEPT when they are old enough to access social media. 2. Many of the problem social media ALREADY requires for you to be an adult. 3. This would technically apply to bulletin boards etc. all sorts of creative, actually beneficial endeavours, 4. This would isolate abused teens; for some, social media is the only support group they have.

How about teaching social media traps and critical thinking in schools instead.

Problems in social media mainly arise from algorithm-driven brainwashing. This is attacking the symptom, not the problem.  Treat Meta, X and Google’s algorithm-driven feeds as cyber warfare and you cut away 90% of the problem, and forcing those sites to implement a default, CHRONOLOGY AND TOPIC based feeds are trivial. That is how they worked originally.

  10. Yes please. Regulate the lot. Almost 20 years of no regulation has made society worst.

  11. While you cannot control behaviour with bans (not entirely, at least), this should be viewed more as a harder guideline for parents to adhere to. Same with how seatbelts becoming mandatory to wear was a wake-up call for many people back in the day, or banning smoking inside in restaurants and bars.

  12. So we’ll just have idiot 15 year olds on the internet instead of idiot 7 to 13 year olds. Got it. Could we actually fix the root issue: lack of critical thinking? We need to have cyber security, critical thinking, source critique, etc. back in the mandatory a school curriculum and on young grades already, 1st grade already potentially. And might as well also organize courses for over 50 year olds, cause many of them are just as bad as the small kids.

  13. If parents actually parented these days, we wouldn’t have to witness this nonsense. At which point did the wheels fall off?
