Why is climate action stalling, not ramping up as Earth gets hotter? As the impact of global warming becomes more obvious, you might expect countries to step up climate action and preparation, but we’re seeing the opposite happen

People have proven themselves to be a malignant cancer on the earth and so everyone’s given up. Why fight to keep being awful when we can just give in and let our own nature destroy us all, like we deserve.
Massive successful propaganda campaign and visionless leaders.
Its clear, capitalism is happening that follows greed, look at Trump, clearly money driven..
Our long term survival does not generate short term profits.
Why do you think Landman is tentpole-ing Paramount+ subs right now? There’s a very well funded & measured cultural counterweight against the necessary actions that need to be taken
The fix is in. I think governments have resigned themselves to stratospheric sulfate aerosol injection. Look for announcements to be made in the next few years. Oh well for ocean acidification and termination shock risks.
Our greed and insatiable appetites will be our own downfall. What comes around goes around. Nature takes a back seat to no one.
The same reason it always does, corporate profits are given a higher priority.
Because climate action was always inept. It just becomes clearer now that the situation is getting more urgent.
Heads in sand = problem solved. /s
Humans have always generally sucked at collective action of a certain scale; unless absolutely mandated to do so. Our leaders failed to make it mandatory.
Americans voted for a climate-change denier a year ago because they were unhappy with the price of eggs. Eggs that had been underpriced compared to most of the wealthy countries due to the abhorrent conditions on factory farms, a situation that few cared about as long as their eggs were $1-$1.50/dozen.
Now multiply that by all of the wealthy, high-emitting countries.
Because Lou-E-G focused on health insurance executives first?
>Why is climate action stalling,
People are inherently irrational.
Some see profit ahead…think of it, ice melts and you have pristine goodies buried underneath.
Others just believe this is Earth’s natural cycle.
Others are too busy to know or care even if it concerns their well-being or the well-being of their descendants.
The list goes on….and on….
I think it’s much more than oil industry propaganda alone. It seems clear to me that the industry is creating diversionary chaos and violence everywhere it can in order to keep us from cooperating to phase out fossil fuels. Number one oil producer America is being torn apart by oil-fueled polarization. Number two oil producer Russia is throwing the world into disorder by invading Ukraine. Etc..
The oil and gas biz will fight to the last barrel. They know they’ll lose, but not before today’s aging oil barons enjoy another twenty years of power.
Money
Capitalism. We will never solve climate change without dismantling the system that caused it.
people in power prioritize money.
I think for somewhat the same reasons that a lot of working-class people blame immigrants for worsening employment conditions instead of the oligarchs who are actually imposing those conditions.
Lots of anti vaxers, flat earthers, climate deniers and other nitwits, plus very successful advertising by the fossil fuel industry. Watch the movie “Thank you for smoking” for how to do it
High social status in the future is more likely to be achieved by gaining wealth and power in the immediate future; if you let other people have more than you now, you are also much less likely to have high social status later on. So future wealth is highly dependent on immediate actions that benefit you.
My guess is that the harder the changes get, the more people resist them.
The first steps were pretty easy. Rich people get to lower their bills (and feel good about it) and live in greater luxury by installing solar panels and driving EVs. Utilities make power-purchase-agreements with renewable energy developers. Everybody else just keeps on doing whatever they’re doing.
Next steps are a lot harder, a lot more resistance. Car lanes get converted to bike lanes and pedestrian plazas. Utilities charge Time-of-Use rates for electricity. Stoves and water heaters get replaced with more efficient electric models. If they do these wrong, then bad things happen, such as the blackout in Spain this summer.
I think the final steps are catastrophically difficult, and therefore won’t happen without overwhelming catastrophe. People eat less meat. Zoning codes change for more housing and less parking. Fertilizers get produced without mined methane as the source of hydrogen. These measures are intolerable to both voters and industrialists, and that’s why I think capitalism will fail.
Isn’t it obvious. Combating climate change requires major sacrifices.
Politicians can’t enact significant unpopular policy because their power to do so depends on winning popularity contests.
Corporations are only interested in solutions that are profitable. Any board that chooses a course of action that prioritises something other than profit will be voted down and replaced.
COVID demonstrated that consumers actually have the power to force change through their behaviour. But it’ll take an immediate threat to their lives to do so. Mostly they riot at the slightest suggestion of sacrifice.

>How an elite clique of math-addled economists hijacked climate policy.
Lots of conservative politicians elected recently, climate denial is on their agenda. Given how Trump is doing, they could be voted out in a few years or so.
Hopefully we will get back to it.
I am excited for solar power helium zeppelins.
Because no one wants to do the hard work. The people dont want to stop driving as much as they do, anf live in colder house, stop eating so much meat, and the givernment has to will to force unpopular changes on them. We all die, then end.
Billionaires polluting and desperately holding onto their power to
The richer you are the more you want the population of the Earth to decline massively so you can scoop up giant portions of the surface like Lex Luthor
Because the leadership of humanity is ruled by the dollar. Thats it.
