My ex and I were on our honeymoon in Edinburgh in June of ’95, and we were headed to the pub that’s just at the top of Calton Road. As we were walking down the road, two guys ran past us down the street where a car pulled out of an alley. A voice up on the bridge above yelled, “Cut!”
We assumed they were shooting some student film, because it didn’t seem like the road was blocked off and there were no huge lights or anything. I went into the pub to order and my wife stayed outside where she talked and had a smoke with the two actors, Ewan Bremner and Ewan MacGregor. (I assume she still has the picture she took of the two Ewans on her fridge.) MacGregor was amused that she hadn’t heard of him, because *Shallow Grave* had already been a big hit in the UK.
It wasn’t until months later that we realized they had been filming the opening scene of *Trainspotting*.
I was walking through that tunnel one weekend and passed Danny Boyle being interviewed by a TV crew. Being an oblivious sort of person, I didn’t notice until I almost bumped into them. It was when T2 was coming out.
