1. The wording is not correct.

   Saying that they fell into the trap can be understood like they are somehow to blame for it.

   They are being pushed, that didn’t fall by themselves.

2. Perhaps this is because (for a thousand times) – Putin isn’t interested in a temporary ceasefire which ultimately will be conditional on further territorial discussion. He wants this to he a finalized agreement which would allow everyone to move on. Territorial recognition and neutrality – key issues without defining which any agreement would only be temporary and indeed would instigate continuation of the conflict.
