I bought a coat with this label, and I tried to find more about Kestila – just because I am curious. I could only find a few old EBay posts around things made by this company. Anyone know anything about the makers?
It’s from Kestilä. It’s a small countryside village about 1 hr drive down south from Uleåborg. Didn’t know they’ve had a tailor shop there back in the days.
And yes I did google –> All of these terms and a few more: kestila finland coat company maker history. AI said there was no history on google (no shock). The first 7 pages were all ebay and places selling Vintage clothing with a mixture of different medical research papers (which I am wondering is because of the name) Thank you all for the information I loved reading the wiki page and sad to see the company fail as the coat is beautiful and very well made.
There is a saying in Finland (or at least in Turku) for dressing up somewhat fancy, literally “putting on some better Kestilä”.
Incidentally, I live in the same block in Turku where the Kestilä factory was located, and some years ago I even worked briefly in that old factory building.
I recently sold a tailcoat with trousers (for the dress code white tie) made by Kestilä, so they really made all kinds of garments.

It was one of the largest clothing producers in Finland during 1930s, operational between 1911–1989.

It’s only available in Finnish unfortunately.
