Latvian carrier and Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) specialist Smartlynx has announced it is ceasing operations following an evaluation of its financial circumstances.
Smartlynx has operated for several UK carriers including TUI Airways UK and the former Thomas Cook over its three decades long operation.
Having filed for legal protection on the 28th October, Smartlynx has been under scrutiny to assess its future financial position and the end result was that it was no longer a viable operation.
In a statement SmartLynx chief executive Edvinas Demenius said: “This difficult decision was made after carefully assessing all possible scenarios for continued operations,” says Demenius.
“Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, it has been concluded that it is no longer possible for the company to continue its activity.”
Smartlynx has a fleet of 12 Airbus A320 family aircraft including both A320 and A321 variants, and also including A321 freighters.
