Exact same order from the same chip shop. The fish cake entry was added and removed, mistake by the bossman.

Rissoles?
An aristocrat !
Oh no, you’ve made me want a chippy tea 🤌
About time they did hushy peas
the declared £1.19 “delivery fee” is pure evil
I cannot for the life of me understand why people use any of these third party delivery services. All they do is rip of the businesses, drive like assholes, and treat the staff like ass (from what I have seen)
Edit: a lot of people are saying convenience in some form or another; I appreciate this, but I’d rather go for a different takeaway from somewhere that uses an in house delivery system rather than utilise a third party company.
That’s ridiculous
There’s a local chip shop near me that offers free delivery. Their normal prices are more expensive than on Just EAT! Figures!
fish cakes for £1.50! wtf! my local chippies do them for like £4.30

Obligatory money shot
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, these apps are daylight robbery.
I passed my driving test 3 weeks ago and i never want to use a delivery app ever again.
So expensive.
£16 delivery charge. Where is it being delivered from? Calais!
Stupid culture of food deliveries as a regular thing. It’s a unhealthy lazy development that’s for sure. If you have a disability or mobility issues then that might be different but otherwise fit and able people will just become fat and obese people, entitled ones at that.
Last time I looked into this McDonalds was about 50p per item more expensive if you bought it through JustEat rather than buying it instore, then you pay delivery on top of that. Needless to say I don’t use JustEat any more.
I believe JE take 30% of the order cost which would explain the increased prices. It’s a horrible model and Deliveroo et al are just as bad
Local chinese has different prices even if you ring up and they deliver it, it’s always loads cheaper.
JustEat, Uber Eats, Deliveroo, they’re all thieving cunts
Welcome to adulthood, you can also buy cheaper cans from a supermarket.
Side point – i never get fish and chips delivered anyway, but on the account that speed is of the absolute essence with fish and chips, every minute extra it’s sat steaming away wrapped up, the more crunch it loses. I don’t trust a delivery driver to get it here quick enough.
I’ve always collected a lot of our takeaways, suppose it’s a touch old school, my favourite curry house no longer exists and I’m annoyed that I can’t save 20% for collection with cash and sit for 10 minutes with a bottle of cobra chatting to mr Hussain. I’ve done that for over 20 years. It’s the simple things…
Rocket science right there
Did a similar comparison between my local favourite asian takeaway restaurant and just eat last year.
I calculated that my order was 70% more expensive via just eat and other delivery apps, which suddenly was grossly insane to my mind.
Just how did i get so used to delivery, feature creep plus subtle increases each year, since covid era really.
So now i just go there myself, and every time I’m over the moon at how much i save each time.
They lay hidden services charges in the menu, then add on delivery charge which is fine of course and usually is paid by a subscription, but no they add on another service charge on top of that too. Sub+sc+hidden commission.
Ive compared online menus with these providers and saw a huge difference in the mark up.
Only time i ever order via these apps now is when there’s a sizeable discount going on, and yet they still rake in 30-40% on top the restaurants don’t get it the service provider does. Wondering if they also squeeze the restaurants for the discount from their end too? Hmm
It’s good to highlight that they aren’t just adding fees on at the end, they have also inflated the price of every item on your order – many by 50%. Which gets compounded when they charge a service fee on top of already added profit for the app.
Going from £21.90 to £38.03 is an increase of £16.13
Or an increase of 73.65%
This should be cross posted to r/UKFrugal
Never heard of a rissole before but after looking it up, I really want one! I’m SW England and if I haven’t heard of them then chances are they are rare down here.
That’s because Justeat,Deliveroo and Uber all take 30-40% of the total sale and then add a delivery/service fee on top of that. The restaurant or takeaway then has to add that into their base price to cover it that’s why food always cost more on these apps then if you go there in person and order
In financial services, you can’t get away with hiding fees like this.
Pretending delivery is only a quid twenty, but marking items up by 50% (in the case of the cod) should not be legal.
In what world is fish £13 a go
In a shock to no one I assume?
First time I’ve heard of Irish curry sauce. Is that a thing in the UK?
Damn you could start a business just delivering other people’s food and saving them money!
Wait a second…
