It’s honestly baffling, if Trump was willing to extend ACA credits in the first place, why did he cause millions to worry about missing their SNAP payments and force over a million federal employees to miss their paychecks? If he was open to meeting Democrats’ demands on ACA credits, why the fuck didn’t he just do that in the first place?

An extension with new limitations on who is eligible for the subsidies, elimination of $0 premiums and a provision that says “anyone who downgrades their coverage under the new proposals would see the difference in costs distributed to a “Health Savings Account” provided with taxpayer dollars.”

    So it’s an extension with some minor tweaks to make it look like they had a genuine reason for blocking the extension in the first place. 🤦‍♂️

  15. See here’s the thing. Congress passed the BBB and which did not extend the credits. For them to be extended, Congress must pass a bill, which is in no way guaranteed. There is a pretty high likelihood that a poison pill will be inserted into the bill which will guarantee its failure and Republicans will blame the Democrats.

    There is zero intention by the Republicans to actually extend the credits.

  28. It’s wild watching this play out. Forty-plus days of shutdown because Republicans refused to touch the ACA subsidies… and now Trump is walking out with the exact same extension Democrats asked for, just wrapped in a different slogan so he can pretend it came from him.

    Millions of people were about to get hammered with premium spikes in January. Democrats held the line to stop that. Now Trump’s “solution” is basically the Democratic fix, plus a couple ideological stickers slapped on the side so he doesn’t have to admit he folded.

    So after all the chaos, missed paychecks, and performative outrage, we’re landing on:
    Obamacare, but with Trump’s name written over the label.

    This isn’t policy leadership. It’s the political version of stealing someone else’s homework and changing a few words so the teacher doesn’t notice.

Same deal with the tariffs, if you’re just going to give everyone $2k, what was the fucking point in driving inflation up and taxing everyone in the first place? If you’re just going to roll the tariffs back, what was the fucking point? He changes his mind so frequently.
