Words are easy. 22B euros in aid in 2025 doesn’t buy you the geopolitical clout the Germans seem to believe that it buys. The reason the US is the ‘leader of the free world’ is because of the 1 trillion military budget. The US fumbling under Trump is only a bump in the road. There was a lot of rethoric about the US losing leadership status under Trump 1. Then Europe just suffered amnesia along with Biden for 4 years, pretending Trump 1 never happened.
What makes USA the leader is that the US president can wake up tomorrow, and decide that there should be more jets in Ukraine than Russia has produced since 1991.
If Germany, or anyone else wants to take leadership. They must build a military industrial complex capable of backing up their ‘non-negotiable’ positions. Russia doesn’t fear paper money.
