If the sea doesn’t come to the canoe, the canoe has to go to the sea
A dumb solution that works, is no dumb solution
lowkey jealous
I go on a canoeing trip to Sweden every two years or so, it’s always a hassle dragging a metal Canadian style canoe over land, even on wheels!
Seems like typical commute to me.
No, he’s clever 🙂 carrying a kayak is a bitch on the shoulder 🙁
Don’t mess with Texel
The unforseen downsides of the Dutch creating landmass where there was once water, look at these poor displaced creatures, struggling to adapt after the destruction of their natural habitat.
all my exes live on Texel
I realize this is tagged as humor, but I just want to add a bit of context as a sea kayaker myself.
This guy has wheels under his kayak and those are absolutely godly if you want to carry your kayak between launch sites, across a lock (sluis) or simply to get to the other side of the island because the wind is harsh. You can absolutely get across Texel this way and it’s not significantly harder than walking with a backpack. I’ve done portages of 10 kilometers like this although you probably want to limit it to “getting from the beach to your car”.
The plastic kayak he has is long and meant for the sea. A trained sea kayaker should be fine but we don’t generally recommend going out kayaking on the sea alone.
Sea kayaking is a bit of a niche thing, but if anyone wants more info just shoot me a pm!
Fun fact: Texel once had a sea kayaking center. Possibly even two.
Correction; it is a tugboat on land. Both the people and boats on Texel are different.
Da’s toch gewoon iemand met een zeekayak?
The Dutch solution would be to use a bike to pull it.
I love it! I’ve been to Vlieland before but not Texel. Is it similar/better/worse?
Being a native Tesselaar, I fully agree. Hell, I’m probably related to the guy on the photo. And that’s why I don’t live there anymore…

Work smarter, not harder. Right?
