Although there is still no official announcement on the matter, it now seems clear that Slovenia will not take part in Eurovision 2026, nor will it broadcast the contest. The draft of the Production Plan (PPN) clearly shows that the public broadcaster RTVSLO does not intend to participate in the competition, nor to air it. In fact, if Israel wins in Vienna, Slovenia will also not return in 2027.

Why was this decision made?

Beyond the well-known position of RTVSLO, that it will not participate if Israel remains on the list of competing countries, a stance reiterated after the EBU announced changes to the rules — the draft programme states that in 2026 priority will be given to major sporting events.

The EBU chapter

RTVSLO will continue its cooperation with the EBU in exchanging news, concerts and special programming. EBU experts will participate in news-integration projects, while staff from the Slovenian public broadcaster will continue to serve on EBU committees in 2026, with their terms having been elected in 2025 and lasting two years.

All of the above clearly indicate that RTVSLO considers Israel’s participation certain, and no surprises are expected during the EBU meeting in Geneva on December 4 and 5. It is likely that Slovenia’s withdrawal from the 70th Eurovision Song Contest will be officially confirmed there.
