Avrotros, the Dutch public broadcaster, is facing a critical dilemma. Its position of not participating in Eurovision 2026 if Israel competes no longer resonates as strongly as it did in September, when it was first expressed. Now, it must either reconsider its stance and take part in the contest despite Israel’s presence, or uphold its earlier statement and boycott Eurovision 2026.
According to Het Parool, Avrotros seems to be sticking to its position in favor of withdrawing from the contest. The Netherlands has several EBU member broadcasters besides Avrotros, and since Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2026 appears almost certain, one scenario being explored is that another broadcaster, such as NOS—experienced in major events—could take over the project in 2027.
In any case, the internal selection process for choosing the artist and song for Eurovision 2026 has been completed, so that Avrotros is prepared for any outcome.
Avrotros will officially announce its intentions regarding Eurovision 2026 after the EBU General Assembly on December 4–5.
