UK is an expensive place to visit first of all. On top of that they have a stricter visa policy compared to EU. I don’t understand the expectation that it’ll be a popular tourist destination. I’d love to see Stonehenge and visit Scotland but I need a visa and it’d cost a lot so it makes sense.

I’m guessing city breaks aren’t the most popular thing during a pandemic. The non city UK tourist spots were still really busy, but with British tourists. It was actually really nice to not have to go to the airport, deal with insurance, changing money etc…. Not that it’ll stop me from flying somewhere next year hopefully.
The article compares 2019 to 2021 for the UK and then contrasts that with a comparison between 2020 and 2021 for France, Greece and Spain. That seems deliberately disingenuous.
UK visa fees are also stupid expensive. A 10-year multiple entry to the US costs someone in India $160. The same visa to the UK costs $1150. We get it, you don’t want visitors.
I mean who would want to visit the UK while many EU countries are better in every aspect (weather, architecture, landscape, people, food, affordability) LOL. I would go on holiday in Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Germany, Czech Rep, Slovenia, Croatia, etc. before I would even consider the UK.
I’ve visited London and it’s nothing special compared to New York, Amsterdam or Paris. And if I ever go to the UK again, I’d only want to visit Scotland.
The only advantage the UK has is the comfort it offers someone who only likes visiting a place that speaks English. I know a couple of American and Asian friends like that.
