Creos Luxembourg Hydrogen, a wholly owned subsidiary of Creos Luxembourg, has been charged by the Ministry of the Economy with the development and operation of a reliable and efficient hydrogen transport infrastructure.
The company issued a press statement on Tuesday and will officially take charge of the future network on 1 December.
Creos Hydrogen is developing the HY4Link project to foster decentralised green hydrogen production across the Greater Region, in cooperation with Fluxys Hydrogen in Belgium and Natran in France. The project will eventually connect the future Luxembourg network to the European Hydrogen Backbone, an initiative by a group of 33 energy infrastructure operators that aims to develop a competitive, liquid, pan-European renewable and low-carbon hydrogen market.
“The initiative seeks to foster market competition, security of supply, security of demand, and cross-border collaboration between European countries and their neighbours,” the EHB states on its website.
Creos Luxembourg CEO Laurence Zenner said the award recognises Creos’ role in the development of essential energy infrastructure. “With our integration into the European Hydrogen Backbone, we are helping to create the conditions necessary for the decarbonisation of Luxembourg’s industry and the country’s energy transition,” he said.
Peter Hamacher, managing director of Creos Luxembourg Hydrogen, said that the ministry’s designation marks a decisive step in the structuring of the future hydrogen network in Luxembourg. “We have already begun coordinated work with the authorities and stakeholders to ensure the progressive and coherent development of the infrastructure,” he stated.
