  2. They often try to push such pointless “generally good” resolutions with pieces of propaganda inside them. It is stupid to support anti-nazi resolution proposed by a totalitarian fascist regime.

  8. In Russia you are considered neo-Nazi or a person who rehabilitatates fascism if:

    – you do not understand why spend millions to the yearly victory day parade;

    – if you are a girl sharing a picture kissing another girl near a victory monument ;

    – if you criticize a veteran for appearing in Putin’s propaganda video;

    – if you are a Ukrainian patriot waving a Ukrainian flag;

    – if you are a Belorussian patriot waving an old Belorussian flag.

    So if Russians propose some resolution about Nazism, be sure they are preparing another tool for repressions against those who do not love Putin strong enough or those who do not fit into the modern Putin’s conservatism and “traditional values” .

  10. Russia propose the same resolution every goddamn year. The US always votes against and Europe abstains.

    *We deeply regret this resolution is not designed to actually combat the global threat of modern Nazism, anti-Semitism, and totalitarian ideology. The resolution inappropriately focuses on criminalizing free speech and expression. As in years past, one nation has chosen to hijack this resolution, narrow its scope, and use it as a political weapon against its neighbors. For those reasons, and because it calls for unacceptable limits on the fundamental freedom of expression, the United States must vote against this resolution.*

    *We are particularly concerned about the vague terminology that attempts to capture “incitement” or “incitement to discrimination,” which can be and has been used by governments to inappropriately target political opponents and undermine the ability of civil society to shine a light on human rights abuses in their countries.*

    *The United States strongly disagrees with the resolution’s willingness to curb freedom of expression. While we share concerns over the rise in hate speech around the globe, this resolution’s recommendations to limit freedom of expression, freedom of association, and the right to peaceful assembly contravene the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and must be opposed.*

    The US comment from 2021:

    …*[Today, however, the United States must once again express opposition to this resolution, a document most notable for its thinly veiled attempts to legitimize Russian disinformation campaigns denigrating neighboring nations and promoting the distorted Soviet narrative of much of contemporary European history, using the cynical guise of halting Nazi glorification.]*

  11. Let’s for a moment forget who proposed this and see who refused it: US with enormous racial issues, Ukraine with active rehab of nazi goverment from 40s.

    Now, Russia isn’t so far from the two, but one has to wonder, why would anyone vote against this resolution?

    Edit: Found some kind of explanation, saying Russia wants to stop opposition media with this. To me, this seems like US would have to accept genocide over Natives, Japanese, etc. So Russia trying to “help contain Nazism” and US trying to “stop oppression of journalists”, is just a mask. It’s all about concrete geopol. moves and neither has will to do something about what they mention.

  17. Russia: “I was a friend to the nazis from 1939 to 1941” Then They betrayed me before I could betray them. Now I’m only friends with Neonazis and other far right movements in Europe. World please consider this motion that says on the surface that nazis are bad but if you look a little deeper encourages the limitation of Free speech. We also do not want to work with our former anti-nazi allies to modify this resolution.
