Nah, the country called “nest of spies” in Cold War and let Russian influence flow to highest level of government. NATO doesn’t need another Hungary.
They have a good arrangement right now where they’re protected by NATO without having to contribute anything. I don’t think they will want to change that.
Their unilateral declaration of neutrality is also folklore and part of their identity at this point.
It will never happen, people would not support it. Austrians have a very strong identification with neutrality. I personally don’t and wouldn’t mind if we joined NATO. Still, not gonna happen.
