Trains Are Slowly Getting Better. But Rail Fares Remain A Shambles

  1. What a load of shit.

If you book 18 months in advance, for a specific train at 4:12am changing at 6 stations on your 45 minute journey, it can often be as cheap as only 3 times the price of a black cab ride there.

  2. Generally I think privatisation of previously nationally owned industries has been disaster, certainly around public infrastructure.

The idea of competition is laughable, especially on trains where typically only one company services your intended journey.

Same with water – you can’t shop around.

It also means much of our intrastruture is now in foreign hands which should never have been allowed for national assets.
