Belgian MEP Wouter Beke reiterated Prime Minister Bart De Wever’s concerns that fashioning a €140 billion loan for Ukraine would expose Belgium to unacceptable legal and financial risks. The scheme remains Kallas and the Commission’s preferred option for keeping Ukraine afloat next year.
Another participant said Kallas was “very condescending” in her remarks about Belgium’s position.
leaders hope to clinch an agreement on the loan at the European Council in late December. “If it’s not done, it will be problematic for the Belgians,” one diplomat warned.
Euractiv columnist Simon Nixon writes in his latest op-ed that Belgium’s concerns are legitimate: the country faces real exposure to Russian retaliation, Euroclear – the Brussels-based clearing house – would shoulder uniquely high legal and financial risk.
Belgium, however, has refused to back the scheme unless its legal and financial risks are shared and other EU capitals harness Russian sovereign assets held in their own jurisdictions.
So basically people like Kallas want the Belgian citizens to carry the burden when Russia drags Euroclear and Belgium before courts all over the globe including at our trade partners so we and our children would be f****d for generations? Of course Euroclear would default. As will our global financial standing. And when our Belgian gov. asks to share legal and financial risks, there is one deafening silence.
Why is there even some Leboutin wearing unelected Nazi offspring air head in charge of EU's diplomacy?

Plato would answer something along the lines of
“One of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.”
I know better and would say something like
“Being a corruptible idiot has become a prerequisite for politics”
“What’s the problem? Scared of some more gov’t debt than you already have?”
Uhhh, yes. Very much so actually, Kaja.
It’s very easy to be brave in someone else’s stead if there are no consequences for yourself…
Afloat means millions of refugees don’t come here.
Who cares what this crazy witch has to say
Are they trying to strongarm us on this one? Our conditions are extremely reasonable
Yes, but anyway, she doesn’t have much support within the upper echelons of Europe and international bodies. In fact, let’s be frank, she can say whatever she wants, it doesn’t matter; it’s just what little credibility she has left that ultimately disappears.
At this point I’m wondering if the frozen Russian Assets are still present at Euroclear, or has this become a Zilverfonds 2.0 where the money is already gone but as long as the war continues Russia won’t claim it and nobody knows it’s an empty box.
Kallas is not nazi offspring, check before you post
The core of the matter is that we would be relying on European solidarity hence we are not doing it 🤣
Also to me it is insane that Kallas was allowed to take up her post with several corruption allegations running. Really paints a bad image when Europe really needs a good one. One of those allegations is tied to Russia, really turns this whole shit into a sitcom doesnt it.
Kallas makes dumb statements all the times. Outside of the EU nobody takes her serious. Now she’s making sure that inside of the EU also nobody takes her serious.
It’s a disgrace that this anti-diplomacy person got appointed to her position as minister of foreign affairs for the EU. She’s destroying the EU’s influence in the world. She does the opposite of her job.
She’s a clown, which is our problem. Her problem is that the rest of the world doesn’t want to host her stupid circus show.
This whole redditpost seems propaganda
When we confiscate the property of criminals, are we concerned that they would drag Belgian authorities to courts in other countries? Are we concerned that it would give a bad signal to other criminals so they start to avoid our banks?
If EU makes a decision to recognize the actions of Russia as criminal, with the consequences of seizing their assets – then what court in EU do you think would have an authority to reverse that decision? If Russia could use our judicial system, it would already have done so, to unfreeze those money and pull them away, they do need them.
And what do we care about non EU courts?
