MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but another American holiday follows shortly after, and at many retailers, lasts throughout the weekend. We’re talking about Black Friday!
Some of the best places to find deals are department stores, according to WalletHub.
“JCPenney and Belk would give you significant discounts on things like jewelry, that is a hot item, apparel, and accessories,” WalletHub writer Chip Lupo said. “Kohl’s will give you sizeable discounts on those also, but you can get some really good deals from Kohl’s on small appliances.”
Lupo recommends making a budget.
“List all of the items that you’re planning to buy and list a price; the maximum price that you’re willing to pay,” Lupo said. “That way, when you go into a store, even if an item is marked 70% off, for example, make sure that price is still within your range.”
After you grab your deals at the big-box stores on Friday, you can shop local for Small Business Saturday.
“Governor Ivey proclaimed this Saturday Small Business Saturday. It’s a great time to get out and support those stores that are located in your communities,” said Brittany Peters, public relations manager for the Alabama Retail Association.
“Spending local has a huge impact on our economy. Consumer spending at the local retailers, grocery stores, restaurants; every dollar spent there, 67 cents is then put back into the local economy,” she added.
It’s also a chance for local stores to offer up their own deals, letting shoppers combine big national sales with community support.
The Montgomery Chamber of Commerce has put out a list of participating local retailers and what their deals will be.
