I like to think that airlines will treat their customers so badly, they end up pushing those travelers to rail alternatives instead, and inadvertently save the environment that way.
But then I look at how rail companies treat their customers, and I drop that thought.

I’m at Brussels Airport and it’s all good. Charleroi is badly managed.
They can’t make plane tickets expensive enough. Some people go take a shit with an airplane these days.

In the summer the waiting time was 4hrs during several days. Tickets said come 2hrs before. There was a lot of pushing and fighting. Police had to come a few times.
Next to that they put job students to deal with the angry crowd. I take that airport unfortenatly 1 time a month during the last 8 years due to no alternatives.
Paid toilets everywhere, dirty toilets on top, overpriced parking, unfriendly/arrogant security, not functional barrier system most of the time, strikes, people parking even on the roundabout to avoid high parking costs,…
They say Iraklion airport is worse, been there also, but i think it’s old and ugly there but at least functional and less irritation.
People know full well that it’s a smaller airport and that flights must have accumulated.
Something has to give and maybe y’all can cut the shit down a bit…?
Charleroi was not built for this amount of passengers. It was to accmodate approximately 5 million passengers. Now there are over 10 million yearly. So unless they build a new terminal, these problems will persist. That said, we don’t know if lowcost air travel will stay. Imagine building a new terminal now, only to see Ryanair move away because they don’t want to pay more tax.
It’s indeed the worst in the world. Good luck, OP. I fly a lot for work, like 30-40 times per year but never from Charleroi. Disgusting place, many delays, always strikes,… I never use Belgian airports because I want a reliable service. Stay away next time and pick a better airport like Schiphol, Eindhoven, Dusseldorf etc. I hope you can catch your flight though.

I landed there a couple of days ago and I had to pay to go the toilet after my flight. Everyone was complaining about it.
UPDATE: they just made it to the gate at 8:15. Just 40 minutes before departure
looks like a normal day at Charleroi airport
It’s always like that. Hence why you take the fast track and priority security check thing.
still one of the worst airports in the world though.
I’m just on the plane, discovered I didn’t had a seat nr on my ticket at the gate since it was overbooked and I “was one of the last people to check in”.
Me and two others almost didn’t have a seat for the flight we paid for, which is ofc a Ryanair classic but still… Best of luck OP
Always looked like this the past 3 times I was there this year. I swear they are understaffed on purpose.
Charleroi is one of the only airports I’ve been too where I’ve had to pay to use the toilet. For that I will never forgive them.
Last update: there was no way to get to the luggage drop off area so they took it as a carry on and was charged 70€ + all of the beer was taken away.
Should i ask for the 70 to be refunded or it is what it is
Oh shit, we’re on the way to the airport…
You should have seen the Charleroi – Antwerp train this morning. Even the 1st class coach did not have enough seats for the passengers.
Eindhoven, Dusseldorf, or by car. I never fly from Belgium, hell I’d rather walk.
