Turkey has blocked the start of accession talks with Finland and Sweden in NATO. As several media reports, it was not possible for the NATO Council in the morning to make the decision necessary to start the admission process.

For those western bros who’ll claim “YPG and PKK aRe tOTaLLy diFFeRenT orGaniZAtioNs” maybe you can just see these two
YPG is PKK’s local branch as stated by even US military officials (Secretary of Defense). US itself suggested PKK’s local branch to “rebrand” themselves to sound more democratic.
If Sweden and Finland really want to join NATO then they should stop supporting the PKK and its groups.
If true this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Turkey has legitimate concerns, namely:
1. Sweden currently embargoes Turkey
2. Sweden funding PKK/YPG. Most recently sent $376 million which ends up being used against Turkey.
Also doesn’t help that images of PKK rallies in Sweden get shown in Turkish media. To Turks it’s no different to seeing rallies with ISIS flags. Finally, politicians in Sweden working to have the PKK removed from the terror list.
So Turkey is most likely seeking the embargo to be lifted and condemnation and cease of support for PKK/YPG. Possibly, extradition of proven PKK & FETÖ members as well.
Lets not forget applications have been blocked over a lot less. Greece blocked Macedonia’s membership for over 10 years until they changed the countries name to North Macedonia for example
A deal for USA: have two powerful western democracies in and kick one islamist trouble state out.
Infamous ISIS supporter and human rights violator Erdogan tries his hardest to keep the public eye away from the crumbling Turkish economy in desperate bid to remain in power. Inflation currently at the highest point in over two decades.
They (the other Nato countries) will figure out something eventually. Can’t stop us from joining forever

2. Become NATO member
3. Reverse Turkey’s demands out of principle

Won’t do anything, turkey can and will be overruled by all other memberstates.
Turkey playing both Putin’s and the West’s sides so it comes on top.
Reminder that there is no mechanism for kicking a country out of NATO.
Suspension of some kind is a thing, it happened to Portugal for some time in the 70s I believe, but ATM countries cannot be removed from NATO by other members.
That said, for all the Turks reading this, Erdogan is using these negotiations to try to win back domestic support while the Lira inflates like a balloon and the economy spirals out of control.
You may agree with him on this, thats fair, but know (albeit you’re likely also aware) that he’s using public sentiment on this issue to distract from his disastrous economy.

Ball is now on NATO’s court and either we are in or we are out, but there’s not much we can do besides wait for now. I don’t think Finland or Sweden has so different stances on these Turkish issues than rest of NATO. We have to align with the NATO, not the other way around. Sincere thanks for the quick support from our allies such as UK, US, Germany, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Estonia and Norway (at least).
