Not really sure there were England fan complaints, the one person quoted in the article says: “I appreciate this is unusual. However, people are being killed, there are wars going on in the world, and we feel that we need to highlight football as the number one item.”
That doesn’t strike me as an England football fan so much as a joyless po-faced husk. Although I appreciate the two are not mutually exclusive.

It’s one woman who complained, and it was because she doesn’t like football full stop and wants to see less sports coverage on the news in lieu of “real news” like covering conflicts etc.

It’s funny given the coverage we have to endure. However I would also caveat that with facts
Scotland qualified for Euro 2024 and BBC Scotland & STV were offered the chance to send their own coverage teams/ pundits etc but it’d be paid for from their budgets.
They declined and sent all their hacks on a junket for the duration instead.
If they do that again for the world cup then the ire should be send to them as we know the pish we will hear from BBC / ITV default coverage

I remember 30 odd years ago, complaints when the BBC switched over from the England game to the Wales game half way through.
England needed to beet San Marino by 8 odd goals (and conceded in the first minute) and needed Holland to draw, whereas Wales needed to bead Romania to qualify.
Wales came back to 1-1 and got a penalty (which Paul Bodin missed) when the BBC switched games from the dead rubber of the England match.
Same thing – mass complaints.

During the England Albania game, the commentators were glazing England in the 70th minute despite it being 0-0 at the time, against a significantly smaller and poorer nation.
Ended with two England goals, both of which were celebrated like they won the world Cup by the commentators.
