  9. What more can you ask of Ukraine that it hasn’t already sacrificed? If it were a part of NATO it would be THE ardent partner, yet the current members throw crumbs with their gloves on. Western Europe should be calling up troops to prepare for war as if it is inevitable. Demonstrate to Russia that this is no bluff – and get to work!

  13. Ukraine gave up nukes for security guarantees and look what happened. Whatever it is that they give up now and in the next 1000 years, it won’t be more valuable than nukes, so why anyone would want to make any kind of deal is beyond me.

  17. NATO is the long term answer though it needs some work. We are working on making it ready for the future. Sure, we all want that process to speed up. Through all the difficulties of dealing with a dysfunctional core partner. Kasparov’s horizon is a hundred moves with a win or a loose or a draw, in a zero sum game. Geopolitics is more than that. Its several games at a time, with rapidly changing rules at the time. Let’s not repeat his ‘NATO is dead’. NATO is sick and in hospital.   18. Garry is of course right, but there is a good explanation for all of this that I’m not sure he realizes… a bit sinister.

    NATO, U.S., the collective west doesn’t really care about Ukraine. It doesn’t even care about their “own” members – Baltics, Romania, Bulgaria. They care vaguely about perhaps Poland or Czech rep. – but that’s it and that also has its limits (i.e. there would be no WW3 if russia attacks Poland, there just would be a bigger support for Poland, but that’s pretty much it). From West’s perspective, this is a fight within the former soviet union and whoever comes on top they will happily do business with once the dust settles. Trump does this charade about peace only because he would LOVE to do business with putin and getting bribe money in the process, that’s the only reason he is so commited to “peace”. If it weren’t for this, he would do the exact same sluggish “support” just for the show as Biden did. After all, for the U.S. the longer this conflict lasts, the better.

  22. That the US doesn’t listen to what Kasparov and people like Timothy Snyder, Sam Kiley and Anne Applebaum are saying is a stunning indictment of our political leadership. And that statement applies to the previous Biden administration as well who only half heartedly supported Ukraine.

The heroes of Ukraine need our troops on the ground and our planes in the air (AT LEAST OUR PLANES IN THE AIR SHOOTING DOWN DRONES AS DEFENCE) yet here we are letting Putin and Trump run the worlds order two immoral as fuck hideous corrupt evil men.   25. NATO should call Putins bluff. Deploy troops in Ukraine. Russia will have no ability to do anything. March NATO troops up to the front lines and tell Putin that if ONE NATO soldier is injured by a Russian then they will be wiped off the face of the Earth

  26. Not enough people realize that Ukraine holding the line against Russia averted a likely world war scenario. Imagine if Russia had quickly toppled Ukraine with minimal losses. They would have been on an extremely advantageous war footing. They would have assimilated Ukraine’s economy, resources, military personnel and equipment, and moved the border to a perfect launching point for further military incursions into Europe. Instead, Russia is crumbling and Europe is gearing up for a new era.
