‘Trump’s Ukraine efforts are futile. Putin is not ready for peace’

   Almost four years of war between Russia and Ukraine have produced almost four years of peace plans and almost four years of failed negotiations.

   But buoyed by [his success in Gaza](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/10/09/trump-declares-peace-in-the-middle-east/), Donald Trump launched a fresh push to end the conflict in Ukraine last week.

   In classic style, the US president deployed sheer force of personality and a fast-approaching deadline to try to push through a page of bullet points to deliver peace.

   Just like the Gaza deal, it featured a peace board headed by Mr Trump, a prisoner swap, and global funding for reconstruction.

   But unlike the Gaza plan, it has run up against a leader who is [not ready for peace](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/25/putin-will-not-accept-europe-ukraine-peace-plan/).

   “There is no indication that Russia wants a deal,” Bridget Brink, former US ambassador to Ukraine, told NPR.

   “And that’s the whole point, that peace at any price, which is what appears to be our position as the United States, is not peace.”

   Details of the latest push surfaced early last week. Washington, through envoy Steve Witkoff, had been working with Moscow to [develop a 28-point plan](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/11/20/revealed-trump-and-putins-28-point-peace-plan-for-ukraine/) in which Ukraine would cede its entire eastern region of Donbas to Russia, cap its armed forces at 600,000 people, and give up its aspiration of joining Nato (which would admit no more members).

   In return, Russia would promise no more attacks on Ukraine, facing sanctions if it violated that pledge.

   Mr Trump issued enthusiastic backing as he pursues another headline-grabbing deal and a Nobel Peace Prize. He issued a Thanksgiving deadline, giving Kyiv until Thursday this week to accept.

2. Pootin wants total capitulation and annihilation of Ukraine and knows how to play his stooge with help from Witless.

4. If two months ago he had given the Ukrainians 10 Tomahawk missiles and 3 Russian refineries were destroyed, perhaps now Putin would have been willing to negotiate a real peace plan.

6. “Efforts”, don’t make me laugh. Sending Steve Witkoff over on a private jet every once a while so he can go suck off his idol Putin and copy-paste his wish list is hardly an effort.

8. Of course he’s not ready. The US is playing on his side now, what to want more..

10. Well, this is most likely the most honest headline since Trump got elected.

11. When Putin says peace, he means submission. The only way to bring him to the bargaining table is with his tail between his legs.

12. What effort?

    Trump meanders around alleged “peace plans” like a drunken sailor…there are no concrete plans, unless they are first crafted by his boss in Moscow.

13. Futile? He’s trying to help Russia, the title makes no sense. He’s relaying Russia’s desires to Ukraine as demands, because if they get those demands, taking the rest will be easier. He knows they don’t want peace.

14. Maybe putin is ready to fall out a window. Is that point 20 in the peace plan?
