Drone strike halts gas supply at key Iraq energy field

A late-night drone attack struck the crucial Khor Mor gas field in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province, forcing an immediate shutdown of production at the facility, local ministries announced. The gas field is a strategic source of electricity for the region, contributing significantly to stability in the wider northern Iraq energy network.

According to a joint statement from the Kurdish Regional Government’s Natural Resources and Electricity ministries, the strike occurred around 11:30 p.m. local time. “Gas transmission to power plants has been entirely paused as a precaution,” officials noted, highlighting the vulnerability of key infrastructure.

Videos circulating online showed fire rising from the site after the explosion. Emergency crews responded quickly to prevent escalation, though the extent of facility damage has not yet been detailed.
