A rare outing between Norway and Brazil takes place in this final international break of the year.

This is the first meeting between the two since October 2022, when Brazil emerged 4-1 winners. However, prior to that, you have to go all the way back to 2011 for the last time these two sides faced off.

Brazil also got the better of their Scandinavian opposition on that day, winning 3-0 with the help of a brace from Marta, who is still playing a part for her nation to this day. The legend of the women’s game played a big part in their Copa America victory earlier in the year.

For Norway, it is all about building momentum as a group ahead of the next major tournament in 2027, which is the World Cup. There is no doubt that Gemma Grainger has a fantastic group of players at her disposal. However, certainly in this year’s Euros, it did not look like the squad was all on the same page, as they suffered a somewhat early exit to Italy.

Norway:

Ada Hegerberg continues to look in superb form this season with three goals and two assists in eight Première Ligue appearances; only four of these were starts. Norway’s captain, of course, looks set to spearhead the attack on Friday evening.

Signe Gaupset and Caroline Graham Hansen may be Grainger’s selection for the wide areas, whilst Guro Reiten may be fielded in a more central area.

Brazil:

Considering the opposition that the South American side defeated last time out, it is unlikely that head coach Arthur Elias would be looking to change much after that impressive evening at the Eithad.

A back three of Tarci, Isa Haas and Mariza is to be expected, with Yasmim and Luany potentially acting as the full-backs as they did against England.

Bia Zaneratto, a goalscorer last time out against the European champions, looks set to be part of a double striker set-up alongside Ludmila.

Norway:

Fiskerstrand; Bjelde, Engen, Harviken, Lund; Maanum, Reiten, Naalsund; Hansen, Hegerberg, Gaupset

Brazil:

Lorena; Tarci, Haas, Mariza; Luany, Angelina, Sampaio, Yasmin; Dudinha; Zaneratto, Ludmila

Norway – Ada Hegerberg

Brazil have historically got the better of the Scandinavian side, who will be keen to change this narrative on Friday evening. To do this, however, it certainly feels like their star striker will have to be firing.

Of course, Norway have plenty of attacking threats from different sources, but against a team that reduced the European Champions to one goal from the penalty spot, clinical edge will be required in abundance.

This is exactly why Hegerberg is crucial to victory in Spain, as everyone knows she only needs the sole opportunity to leave her mark on proceedings.

Brazil – Bia Zaneratto

Zaneratto will likely still be on a high after her player of the match performance at the Etihad against England, which saw her score and later assist a goal, proving enough for her side to emerge victorious.

The 31-year-old will be hoping that she can provide her nation with that sort of impact once more against European opposition. The striker has enjoyed a positive NWSL campaign, as she looks to build on her last match for her country.
