The French pretty much bankrupted themselves to help the American revolutionaries, which was a big factor contributing to their own revolution a few years later. The French would rather have their heads chopped off than miss an opportunity to annoy us Brits. I respect that.
I highly doubt they would speak german even if Germany won the war.
It’s actually cool how many towns we have in the U.S. named after Lafayette. I grew up near one.
We honored the man by building a bunch of terrible strip malls there in the 90’s and then never changing anything in the town for the next 30 years.
If it weren’t for America the Brits would have won the war and would have been even more arrogant than they are now…

In their defense, the french only did that to piss us off. They had only good intentions at the time.
