If there are so many companies, why are your rail prices so high? I thought competition was meant to bring prices down.
Why? Privatisation, mostly
Trains need to be re-nationalised. Privatisation of rails wasn’t necessarily a bad idea but it clearly hasn’t worked. It was a good test but I don’t see any good reason to have it privatised anymore based on its outcome.
Now I know where the Deutsche Bahn learned unpunctuality.
Depriving the UK of national public services was a cornerstone of Thatcher’s government. No wonder her statues won’t stand.
Wait, Trenitalia owns a British line? Now I’m curious to know how that c2c performs, since in Italy we love complaining about Trenitalia.
How is there so many different companies?
So weird that Thatcherism in the UK has meant the UK government thinks public ownership is bad, the state is no good at running things. (Except the lines that the private sector ran into the ground). But it is ok for foreign governments to run their trains (Deutsche Bahn).
So foreign governments are capable of running things well, but the British are not?
Holy crap that’s more complex than i thought. Thanks OP.
