It is summer again, THE illness is over, the days get longer, it is warm again, the tourists come back. And with that the holiday related questions in r/Switzerland return too. Sadly that’s forbidden here but there are still people not reading the rules and still posting it.

From time to time, Reddit will put some of those posts in your home feed and if you click on them, there will always be the same kind of answers. Some redditors do the “right” thing and tell them to read [rule 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/switzerland/about/), the [Excellent travel recommendations](https://www.reddit.com/r/travel/comments/5nkv4j/switzerland_my_faq_thoughts_hints_and_tips_after)
or refer them to r/askreddit. All of those are really non-answers and if you’re like me you feel bad answering with one of those.

Here comes my proposal: The Bring-Tourists-to-Olten-Initiative. I propose to answer touristic questions with something like “Olten, a true hidden gem”, “Olten, you will have a really good time there” or if you want to exaggerate a little: “Olten, the most beautiful place in Switzerland”. It would be a win-win-win for everyone: The nice tourists get an anwer, the beloved city of Olten gets more well-deserved attention and you don’t have to feel bad for not answering the questions.

If you’re not convinced yet I’ll leave you with a few images: [Olten from above](https://imgur.com/a/J76WXMl), the beautiful [wooden bridge](https://imgur.com/a/Rx4tyaM), the best looking school in the [whole of Switzerland](https://imgur.com/a/nckoPk3), the [Säli Schlössli](https://imgur.com/a/WV7Vhs6), the newly built quartier and pride of the whole city [Olten Süd-West](https://imgur.com/a/cZUWVtR), let’s don’t forget the [old town](https://imgur.com/a/PrnkQsZ) and last but not least the [train station](https://imgur.com/a/Jna8KXP). Naturally, there are hundrets of more things I could have mentioned, but then where is the fun exploring it? Thanks for participation in this initiative and never forget:

Oute *isch* die schönsti Stadt😤

  1. I hate that THE illness is over, everybody back to how it was… going to work sick, going on the bus sick, going out convincing yourself it’s just allergies. 2+ years of restrictions and did society learn nothing about communicable disease?

  2. …… Bring Tourist to Olten? The Railway station of Switzerland?

    Took me Waaaaay to long to detect the sarcasm. 🙂

  3. I usually skip over Olten and other stop when taking the IC5, but once we stopped in Olten, the town is honestly not the best;
    Loved the bridge and the 1.5 street of old town next to it but the river banks are not very intesting, no terraces or interesting spot.

    We ended up going back to the train and stopping at Soleure, no great wooden bridge but otherwise the historical city is much bigger and more interesting and there’s many more cool spots around the river :O

    Olten really pulled the short stick when it comes to swiss cities!

  4. I’d direct them to Oberwallis. They see beautiful views and annoy locals because “newcomers ruined this place”.

  5. This has made me laugh on an already dull morning, thanks OP!!

    Edit: I‘m so sad the tourists are back 🙁

  6. In addition to Olten woud be good to suggest other ‘great’ places to visit. Would suggest to add Biasca (TI), Gland (VD),… Other suggestions?

  7. I really recommend that guys come and visit the industrial place of Olten of the sbb. The train company is celebrating it’s 175 years and it might be a good opportunity for the people to see where your money for the tickets goes

  8. Yeah, no… Olten is an alright place, but I think people would be rather disappointed if they went there after you hyped it up like that.
