Reeves accused of misleading public on Budget black hole to justify £26bn tax raid

1. Apparently the only options were this or starve people in wheelchairs according to the press

3. Step 1: Pretend the public finances are in a worse shape than they really are, which will obviously make you look bad.

   Step 2: Pass a bunch of tax rises using the imaginary black hole as an excuse, even though you don’t need one since you’re the bloody Chancellor and you can do what you like.

   Step 3: Assume that nobody will read the widely-publicised OBR report that is always released after the budget, which explains that public finances have actually gotten better since you were elected and would’ve made you look good.

   Also, Parliament hasn’t voted on the budget yet so it doesn’t even help you get it passed.

   Yeah, I’m not sure this one stacks up as a theory…

4. I’m sorry but this is the press trying to save their own fucking skin. I was reading the day before the budget that she had a £30b shortfall on the £10b of headroom she gave herself at the last budget. It turned out the £30b shortfall was nonexistent and raised she taxes primarily to increase that headroom, and all of the right wing press have been in favour of more headroom ever since her last budget. She didn’t lie to the public, the fucking press went ape shit based on demonstrably bollocks numbers from the “independent forecasters” mentioned in the article and now they want a scalp to save face.

And who predicted it none of Labour or there supporters but me and others on the right because this is what Labour are now… This budget is purely to appease the backbenchers and nothing to invest in the future or improve the lifes that Labour ceaselessly remind us they are totally on the side of. Along with that non-existent black hole Keir Starmer has only mentioned 200 times…

    Unfortunately it’s looking like they have not.

    It looks like maybe…just maybe…they have raised taxes on working people to pay for increased welfare payments etc. To satisfy their back benchers and ultimately…to save their jobs.

    From day 1 this government has snatched defeat after defeat.

    From free tickets to Taylor swift concerts to clothes etc from rich donors…

    All they had to do was not be total shit like the tories were. The bar was so so low….and they’ve failed.

    Genuinely terrifying that they have fallen so far so fast.

    The last 14 years were bad…I had hoped labour would have leant and done something else….maybe we’ll be saying the last 20 years have been shit by the next election
