Another Belgian example of shrinkflation: Aiki Noodles

  1. They did the same with their, uhm how to call it, the noodles that are just in a packet not in a cup. Those went from a square brick to a circle so they’re actually cutting corners! Also says “new improved recipe” but that’s just so they can make it smaller and it actually tastes a lot worse now so they probably cut some corners on the spices 2.

  2. Well, at least they changed the container size as well. Most companies just silently change the contents and the printed weight, while keeping the packaging the same size. I’d rather see this, to be honest.

  3. Buy real asian noodles from asianfoodlovers.nl or something. Costs a fraction of the price and there are so many more variants and flavors.

  4. It’s fair honestly, they change the weight print and actually adjust their cupsizes. Plenty of companies keep their stuff the same and lower the weight.

  5. I recently noticed a toilet paper trick, always fitted perfectly in the holder and now falls out if you’re not careful. I guess they have cut a mm or 2 from the site, hardly noticeable for the customer but hugh difference for the producer.

  6. These plastic cups are completely unnecessary and such an insult to the environment; it’s baffling how they have not yet been banned with other regulations against single use plastics.

  7. GB foods is thinking about changing the receptie of the noodles to make them taste more like they used to.

  8. I prefer Nissin anyway: readily available in my supermarket too and superior taste, Japanese friend of my son confirms.

Convenient and tasty for when you’re alone (don’t like to cook elaborately for just my own) but I like to pimp it like said friend does it.

Marinated tempeh, bit of pulled pork or leftover roast duck, fried egg, spring onions finely chopped, lettuce, sriracha/kikkoman/sesamy oil, etc, whatever is available and to my liking of the day.

  9. Let’s be honest of you eat Aiki you got no taste, go to any chinese or asian supermarket and buy the asain brands of instant noodles they are way better then aiki will ever be!

  10. These marketing techniques should be illegal or at least regulated. Businesses needs to stop treating people as idiots.
If it’s rich or above average people, we could say “well, whatever” eventually.
But most of tricked people are not smart and not rich, which makes them even less rich.
It’s just playing with the law and there’s no ethic in this.
YES you did nothing wrong, everything in on the box but cm’on we all know people won’t notice anything.

  11. Most brutal, hidden shrinkflation I saw was when Iglo (frozen food) changed their salmon package from 6 pieces to 5 pieces while keeping the same prices and literally identical package design.

I completely overlooked this until one day we were cooking for guests and realized that we were out of stock…

    😡

  12. My favorite SPA drink has shrunk from 50cl to 40cl.

Renamed SPA Fruit, new smaller bottle… but the same price…

  13. I have always only bought Essentials. But now they make those super expensive .. water, wood, electricity. They are coming for your money and it’s because of the covid bill, electric cars and the war in russia. Produce is getting scarse.

  14. Man Aïki used to be so fucking good, but since they changed the seasoning and noodles they ain’t that good
