>A Northern Indiana Republican announced Nov. 28 that he will vote against Indiana redistricting following President Donald Trump’s use of a slur in a Thanksgiving social media post.

>Trump’s Nov. 27 Truth Social post ‒ one in a series of anti-immigrant comments posted Thursday ‒ referred to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as the “r-word.” Though the word was formerly used in medical contexts, it’s now widely regarded as offensive, and disability advocates seek to end its use.

>”Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome,” state Sen. Mike Bohacek, R-Michiana Shores, wrote on Facebook. “This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences.”
Oh I’m so glad that’s the line. Not the million other things dipshit has said in the last ten years. Now he’s crossed the line for you. Great.
For 12 years being a “Trump Republican” was enough for these idiots to get elected/reelected. They are coming to the realization now that it won’t matter any more in 26 and 28. Now they have to find a personal identity again.
Trump is a terrorist.
He will do everything to destroy us and our families.
this has nothing to do with lines, it’s about bravery
dissenting repub politicians felt alone and were easily threatened, now they see colleagues are just as dissatisfied and are starting to all speak up
it’s possible Putin might kill someone, accident of course, next week as a way to intimidate them back into line
Right.
Not the 600,000+ *children* that will die thanks to the usaid cuts.
Just his hurt feelings. Thats the line.
I cant even with these people.
I’ll believe it when I see the vote.
The slur wasn’t the line, the slur is the excuse. A year ago, the senator would have called their own family the “r-word” if Trump told him to.
The actual line is that being a Trump minion is becoming an election liability, especially when Trump himself isn’t on the ballot. As that becomes more clear, expect more and more defections.
So it wasn’t the 34 felonies, completely ignoring court orders, etc., etc.. This was the line. Cool.
Well, this guy is a sitting legislator. While he may be a little late to the party, he deserves credit for being way better than most in his party on an important issue. I think instead of criticizing him now, we should welcome his opposition to Trump.
Why in fuck would a state like Indiana need to move the goal posts more. It’s best impossible and has been for a while for a democrat to win state wide races, or a state house or senate majority. It’s like dude you’re so fucking up and you need to change the rules. Is polling and the next election expected to be this terrible for Trump? I don’t believe it. When he’s on the ballot they kick the democrats ass. We get all this hope in special elections and midterms but that’s fools gold Trump isn’t on the ballot. Trump hasn’t lost more than 5% support. Likely less than that. His voters don’t actually follow his day to day actions or what he does. Truly they don’t know what he does one day to the next.
> “This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences.”
Nobody deserves to be treated the way trump intends to treat all of us eventually, even republicans. He has no decency or conscience.
It’s sad that he’s not voting out of any policy stance, rather out of spite. But, he *is* a Republican, and decency, integrity, and a general moral compass are not a part of their platform.
Is it less good that he’s doing the right thing for a selfish reason? I’m not sure he has any problem with the re-districting it’s just that he’s now personally offended.
I get a lot of us here are mocking the senator for FINALLY turning against the president after all his other wildly inappropriate and offensive actions/statements but should we not welcome the change of heart?
Should we not be glad people are waking up to this?
Look, i too wish that people would have denounced this behavior long ago but we should be welcoming people over to the right side of history than to be mocking them.
I just want as many people as possible to see the truth of what trump is.
Better late than never?? Im glad the senator is taking a stance. I wish it was sooner but ill take it now as well.
>”Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome,”
There it is it has to personally affect them to be wrong.
“…I was fine with *everything* he’s done up until this one thing that personally affected me.” GFY dude.
As much as I want to “it’s about fucking time” all these people, I feel like when we’re playing from the down position the only thing we can say is “better late than never, what ever it takes I guess”
Take it where we can get it, but fucking seriously? It took the r word to push you over the edge? Not grab em by the pussy, not waking through the teens changing at the pagent, not the open mocking of the disabled, not quiet piggy, not ugly, but the r word. Their minds are a fucking thing to behold that’s for sure
This annoys the shit out of me.
Yes, the slur is offensive. For sure. It should definitely impact your opinion of Trump.
Redistricting is a thing you can do that could be good, bad, or value neutral.
But they have *nothing* to do with each other.
Dude is admitting his voting record has nothing to do with the merits of the things he’s voting on.
American politics: where a senator discovers basic decency after getting personally offended.
Not all the child rape?
All the other horrible shit he’s done and has said is fine, but since this impacts me it’s different!
GOP in a nutshell. They don’t care about problems until they impact them
Its funny because that is the word I use to refer to the Orange Turd.
That is the lamest excuse to now defy this person after all this time. But ok, I’ll take it.
The American way. It’s only bad if it affects me.
Per usual Republican performative morality. He only cared when it was hurting him or his. It was fine when it was anyone else being hurt. The “conservative” crowd only cares when its themselves. When it happens to others they cheer for it.
“Do you have any idea, how little that narrows it down?”
“His words don’t affect me until he uses derogatory ‘R’ words (one too many times), because my daughter has down-syndrome.”
-this guy
…or in other words, it doesn’t matter unless it affects me, and fuck you guys that are offended when I am not.
Oh, cool
Doing the right thing only when it harms you or your family and letting it go when it harms others is being miserable.
Until he’s not
Kind of a shame when someone has to be personally affected by something to do the right thing, but I’ll take it.
When he votes for impeachment, I will return his man card. Otherwise it stays pulled. Fight for your daughter, and all of those innocents like her that need our compassion and kindness. Otherwise, get off the lawn, you are the problem.
Did we think the guy who openly mocked a disabled reporter, and calls reports he doesn’t like “stupid” and “piggy” wasn’t going to use slurs?
These are such empty sentiments from politicians. Don’t make change just because it affects you personally, you’re meant to be a representative of the people… not just the people you choose.
