  1. Europe be like:

    do something:❌

spend millions of euros on a study, do nothing: ✔️

  2. Does not matter just mention Ukraine in Germany means you will lose votes that’s also why afd is winning

  3. European Union is incredibly risk averse, slow moving, and have a lack of long term strategic thinking. It’s their biggest weakness and is clearly being exploited by Russia.

  4. But hey, if you’re a heartless multi-billionare who parties with Russian oligarchs in Monaco and Dubai, as long as *you* aren’t thrown out a window whatever pain and agony the poors:tm: are put through doesn’t matter with that sweet sweet corruption money! It’s how the US President rationalizes it, probably /s

  5. We will be in the fucking trenches if Ukraine doesn’t win.

  6. I expect the United States to join the BRICS as well

    not /s

  7. “study finds” by a Ukrainian working for a Ukrainian website?

    Lmao

  8. That’s assuming that even supporting Ukraine does not lead an eventual Russian victory

  9. Let’s be honest for one second. Fuck the cost. We’re talking about hundreds of thousands of human lives and we’re worried about cost? A piece of shit has invaded a sovereign nation, displacing millions and killing potentially millions already. That in itself is enough to put a huge wall up between the Russians and Europe, regardless of cost.

    Money… great isn’t it…

  10. The study sounds like saying that resettling refugees costs more than burying the dead. **Ridiculous** that only calculate how much it costs to give the gun to Ukraine. And the prerequisite is that as long as Ukraine is given guns, Ukraine will win. Is this the way Europe shifts its conflicts with Russia onto Ukrainians-Russia? Super dark.

  11. Ukraine’s defeat can cost Europe everything. What a silly tille. Yon cannot calculate how the Russian and Chinese appetite rise of invasions goes unpanished.

  12. So it’s Europe against Russia and America then. Bring it on.

  13. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
Sadly there are no good men in charge of anything right now.

  14. I am also willing to sacrifice every single ukrainian for the safety of europe

  15. It may cost EU more than just money. If Russia will take over Ukraine, they won’t stop at that. There are objective reasons for them to not stop.

  16. The credibility hit would be fatal, both to the EU and to the liberal democratic system.

  17. I wonder who gets paid to say this kind of bullshit?

  18. russian victory would just be a beginning of world domination of dictators… Also would end with so many dead innocent Ukrainians…

  19. How much lives is two times the cost really worth though?

Lets say the war goes on until 2030 with another 1-2 million casualties and costs Europe as half as much as the war ending now with no more casualties.

  20. While I agree with the basic assessment of the study, it fails to take into account how economics work.

    >To facilitate victory, Ukraine would require a rapid influx of military equipment. This would include “1,500-2,500 battle tanks and 2,000-3,000 artillery systems over one or two years… Ukraine will also need up to 8 million drones of all types, air defense, and strategic missile systems.”

    >Europe’s estimated cost for enabling such an outcome — including military aid, industrial support, and reduced refugee burdens — totals **522–838 billion euros ($605-$972 billion) over four year**.

Those are very large sums of money (and also it’s a speculation – war isn’t predictable enough to make such exact budgets).

Europe is currently giving roughly €40-60 billion / year to Ukraine. We would have to more than triple that (and that assumes that everything else will work out, including production and logistics etc).

The economics of the EU are short sighted. Following the debates about funding Ukraine for the last six months, it is clear that there is no will or appetite among European leaders to dip into our national budgets, raise taxes or take on more debt to cover for Ukraine’s expenses. It would likely be political suicide.

It’s much easier for politicians to push the problems and costs into the future (after all, then it’s no longer their problem).

  21. The study assumes that the cost of peace is $600 billion – $1.1 trillion for refugee support if Ukraine loses all territories up to the Dnipro and $1.5 trillion to fortify the east NATO flank. So according to them the expected $800 billion or so to support Ukraine is half of that. I’m sorry to say this is fantasy land at best purposely misleading at worst. Ukrainian refugees are a net positive for every country and extremely easy to integrate, if anything Europe gains from that. Fortifications also won’t really happen as budgets are too stressed for 10% of GDP spending on that. The cost of losing Ukraine is basically getting a bunch of workers for free

  22. Although I chuckle at the (most likely) bias from this article (check the website). I have to agree and not just from a financial perspective. It’s a question of sovereignty, ideology, and security.
We will lose so much more in the long run not supporting Ukraine than we will gain in the short term.
The outcome of this war will shape European geopolitical space for the century.
