Spent the evening around Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, and Leicester Square, and I genuinely think it’s time to fully pedestrianise that whole route especially on weekends!

  1. Certainly around the festive period but not 365 days a year

  2. It is due to happen. As present only PSV’s are aloud on it anyway

  3. It’s happening and I can’t wait for it. I’ve been wanting it to be pedestrianised ever since I started a job at Marble Arch almost 20 years ago!

  4. I mean if that’s what makes people happy, it’s still awful

  5. I’m against it simply because of having to now walk all the way up Oxford street to get to where I want instead of being able to get a bus. However, it will be nice to not have to constantly avoid being run over. I don’t think it will make people spend more though.

  6. How will the less mobile get to the shops on Oxford St? Traffic presumably will be polluting different parts of Marylebone.

Funny how Khan wants to turn commercial Oxford St into a pedestrian mall, but opposed the Garden Bridge.

  7. No only shut it down for events and leave buses running down the street

  8. I do kind of wish they could stick a tram down it.

  9. They’ve done it with a large section of Camden Town, yea agreed this would be so good. Its impossible to get anywhere without walking on the road.

  10. Angry black cab drivers queuing to disagree with you….

  11. London please, pleas get rid of those disgusting shite rick shaw things.

  12. worth pedestrianising just to get rid of those ropey rickshaw things

  13. Yes, if you’re on Poland Street, and you’re going to Leicester Square, then Oxford Street is a detour.

  14. It just needs to be closed to traffic on the weekends, not completely pedestrianised, as in paved and plant pots etc.

  15. Yes this gets shouted every year.

    But tfl will lose money!?!

  16. Buses only would be ideal.

Tbh make an exception for black cabs too I guess.

  17. I know that cabbies provide a public service ferrying the millions of disabled people up and down it, and it’s perfect for pickpockets, but Oxford Street is an absolute hell hole of a road for pedestrians – locals and tourists alike.

A couple of miles of stop start walking, dodging crowds, side stepping stalls, getting sneered at crossing one of the dozen or so intersections – it’s the pits.

Still amazed how many people seem to want to keep this over a ‘new’ street, that if it gets pedestrianised, will blossom with places to eat, drink and linger.

    But each to their own.

  18. Never seen Piccadilly Circus as busy as it was last night

  19. Easy agree, and including a cycle lane down the middle of it would also do incredibly well (as someone who is sick of filtering past busses and waiting at traffic lights every 20m…)

  20. It’s been approved already it’s happening and I believe the same for regent street or a part of it. Honestly streets in London are so tiny that almost any area could be pedestrianized if there were ways to get goods in and out.
