Traffic near the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was temporarily disrupted Tuesday evening by a protest involving airline food and beverage workers.
The protest took place at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Aviation Street during the holiday rush.
A statement released by UNITE HERE Local 11 said today’s protest was to hold Flying Food Group accountable for its treatment of workers. The protesters are seeking better wages and health protections.
The demonstration was part of a wave of similar protests taking place at airports across the country.
Flying Food Group operates with a city license to supply food for airlines like Air France, Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines, according to the statement released by union leaders.
UNITE HERE Local 11 is a labor union representing over 32,000 hospitality workers in Southern California and Arizona who work in hotels, restaurants, universities, convention centers, and airports.
NBC4 has reached out to Cal/OSHA and Flying Food Group for comment on today’s protest.
