I mean if this is true she probably deserves asylum.
We should be granting it for people who fear political violence for improving their home countries – how else are we going to send the message that they need to improve their treatment of their own citizens to stop mass migration
Fair argument. True? I don’t know, up to courts to decide.
But as far as asylum claim goes, absolutely reasonable and if so, I’m glad she’s here
So she entered on a visitor visa and then lied about her salary for another visa.
Something tells me that just maybe she’s lying about being a celebrity as well.
The amount of deportation issues with Nigerians is getting ridiculous. We can’t deport Nigerians because they are gay (or “gay”), can’t deport them because of their religion, can’t deport them because they are too famous. I can’t wait for the next silly sounding excuse.
At what point is The UK going to tell Nigeria that we are not offering visas to any of their citizens until they start behaving themselves over there.
I’m swear some of these judges and civil servants should be billeted with who they let stay.
So glad these completely impartial judges will decide everything short of rape and murder once Lammy ends trial by jury.
> She argued her political activism—coordinating and attending demonstrations to disband Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a federal police unit accused of widespread rights abuses—combined with her high profile, made deportation dangerous.
If that is true then this is what asylum is for right?
Oh my goodness, I read the article and nowhere in it does the immigration system say she can’t be deported because she’s too famous. Do you think the editor got confused and gave the wrong headline to the wrong story?
If she was in any danger, her local politician parent wouldn’t have a career in politics. Typical bs.
the sooner we can enforce our laws the better , the sooner say nigerians or whatever country they’re escaping from the oppression realise crossing two continents and probably 20!countries to get here won’t get them the immunity to bring sent back the better. right now the human rights of those from overseas seem to out trump the human rights of the british. Yes we should accept a limited number as every ‘safe’ country should but this shouldn’t be a hospital breakfast lunch and dinner style card where you tick boxes as to what (country) you want the next day!
this sub has become such right wing it’s disgusting
Kemi Badeoch?
I dont care if shes famous, celebrities aren’t above the law.
Matter of fact, she’s now an example we should be making, process her and if shes fails, deport her, she can come on another visa for what ever roles she may have in future, despite her having overstayed once (should now be a lifetime ban) but leniency should be granted.
I’ve heard enough, give her everything
I don’t care. Deport.

She argued her political activism—coordinating and attending demonstrations to disband Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a federal police unit accused of widespread rights abuses—combined with her high profile, made deportation dangerous. The court was told: “The consequent risk to her safety is enhanced by the fact that she is a well-known model and actress in Nigeria and the daughter of a local politician.”
Oh look! Someone left this context lying around.
I swear some of you read this and think it’s the equivalent of some love island contestant.
Well some Nigerians abuse our Country. Kemi Badenoch’s parents are an example of this?
First chance other countries get to kick people out they will regardless of the reason
I used to live 3 doors away from a Nigerian family. It was an odd household with people coming and going. The older man (grandfather or older hubby, I never knew) had been back to Nigeria and arrived home with a tropical disease. Paramedics told us to stay back.
They were council tenants with 4 or 5 kids. Most of the houses on that street were privately owned and white, so they stood out a bit. They were nice enough and would dress up for church on a Sunday. My ex and I were one of the few people who spoke to them.
The Express is seriously misrepresenting [what took place at the hearing](https://tribunalsdecisions.service.gov.uk/utiac/ui-2025-001771) – deliberately throwing red meat at the Tommy Robinson brigade.
In reality, OO’s claim for asylum is because she claims to have been a prominent leader in public demonstrations against Nigeria’s “[Special Anti-Robbery Squad](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Anti-Robbery_Squad)”, which notoriously beat and murdered people. OO says she lent her social media clout to the “[End SARS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_SARS)” movement, organised and led demos, and her card is proper marked now. If she goes back, she’s likely to be harmed or even killed by the corrupt, violent cops. She can’t lay low or start a new life in another town, they’ll easily find her.
First-Tier Judge Khan decided that her story was too vague, inconsistent & limited, and he didn’t believe it. So he refused her asylum claim. OO has successfully appealed on a technical point, that Judge Khan took that decision before hearing expert advice about the Nigerian justice system. Upper Tribunal Judge Kelly rightly said this wasn’t fair, and sent the case back to First-Tier to be reconsidered by another judge.
So it’s quite possible that OO is making all of this up, and it’s quite possible that she’s a civil rights activist in genuine fear for her life. If the first, we all want her flung out. If the second, that’s exactly what political asylum is meant to be for. This story shows the system working properly.
The thing about the racists on this sub is even when you show them they’re being lied to they don’t care. They’ve made up their minds already
So was Boris Becker and we deported him anyway.
What’s her @. Let us decide. She can stay if she’s fit. Munters can GTFO.
The Ali G immigration system is in effect.
I feel these words from the judge might apply to quite a few commenters here:
Judge Kelly wrote: “It seems to me to be axiomatic that a fact-finder must not reach his or her conclusion before surveying all the evidence relevant thereto.”
