  3. Majority of the city is begging for fast reliable public transport. These people will have links to two of the best public transport lines in the city and they are not happy. WTF.

  7. The listing of names and going to ask their opinions is the type of journalism that was needed here. If you’re going to publicly declare your opposition and hold up critical infrastructure that the vast majority of the public want, you should be able to stand over it.

    We’re one of the few countries in Europe without a metro system for crying out loud and day in, day out Dublin is in absolute gridlock.

    It’s the bare minimum of what we need to be honest.

  22. I’m sorry but as someone who takes the green line basically everyday, when I get on at my stop it’s pretty busy, so by the time I get to Ranelagh the Luas is absolutely packed at peak times. It’s gotten pretty chaotic recently as well. There is absolutely a need for metro in Ranelagh to take some pressure off of the Luas

While a financial risk will put off a lot of people it won’t stop it, we really need a ln alternative to the slow processes today or to ban them which seems anti democratic in some ways but infrastructure like this will be in place for 100+ years and carry millions of people in that time and we’re allowing a small few stop of delay it by decades.. crazy

  27. Dublin south East has the best public transport in the country. the dart, an actual dedicated luas line not using shared roads, great bus lanes. And the fuckers still complain when they given more.

  29. We really need to change our laws to stop anybody holding up public infrastructure projects. It’s impossible to progress if everyone has a say. Other European countries don’t have this for a reason

  32. I know the headline is rage bait, but I also have met so many people that think like this and that they have to confronted. Why am I finding myself so annoyed?

    I think I read the article relating to this morning in the paper (different headline , it lists out a lot of residents. There was a lot of exactly who would expect. The Failte Ireland climate action and sustainability officer is one that raised my eyebrow. The reasons for the objection are not listed yet but it will probably be to do with disruption while construction is happening.

  33. I don’t get the logic here. I know a few speculators who will buy land or property in areas where they predict that future transport connections will be built. Property and land prices soar where there are good metro connections.
