After allowing just five points in the second, Teagan Huey and Morgan Bryant joined the deep-ball party, with Huey hitting a pair of free throws to get her onto the scoreboard with total points in the quarter.

The 13 points from Spain Park pushed the lead out to 34-9 going into the halftime break.

Another standout defensive performance saw the Jags give up just two points in the third. Five different Spain Park players found the bottom of the basket in the quarter, including four points each from Franks and Libby Gray.

The Jags led 50-14 after the third as a result and went on to win by 41 points.

Franks led the team in scoring for the second-straight game with 15 points. Huey scored eight points, Calhoun had seven points and Smith and Whatley each finished with five points.

Spain Park faced a tighter test in the third and final game of the showcase against Tuscaloosa County as the Wildcats got going early.

An 11-point quarter from Tuscaloosa County put the pressure on the Jags to respond, but 3-pointers from Smith and Franks helped them keep pace. Calhoun, Huey and Gray each scored as well to give Spain Park a 12-11 lead at the end of the first.

The deep balls kept coming from the Jags in the second quarter. Bryant scored twice from long range while Franks added her second of the evening. As a result, Spain Park won the quarter 9-7 and led 21-18 at halftime.

The defense flipped a switch in the second half and gave up just two points in the third quarter and six total for the entire second half.

The Jags capitalized on offense with Calhoun scoring five of her team’s 10 points in the third. That took the lead to 31-20 at the end of the third, and Bryant added another pair of baskets in the fourth quarter to seal the 13-point win.

Bryant led Spain Park with 10 points while Franks had eight points, Calhoun scored seven points and Gray finished with six points.

The Jags took their record back above .500 to 5-4 on the year. They will host the Oak Mountain Eagles on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in a rematch of the Eagles’ 51-35 win on Nov. 20.
