The Royal Family's Christmas 2025

Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg is the setting for the Royal Family's Christmas. HM The King and Queen and their four children will celebrate Christmas at Amalienborg together with HM Queen Margrethe.

The Royal Family will attend the Christmas Eve service in Vor Frue Kirke on 24 December at 4:30 p.m., and on 25 December the Royal Family will attend high mass in Vor Frue Kirke at 10:00 a.m. Queen Margrethe will attend the Christmas Eve service in Fredensborg Castle Church at 2:00 p.m.

HRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will celebrate Christmas with their children in Washington D.C.

On the last evening of the year, His Majesty the King will deliver his New Year's speech. This will take place from Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg at 6:00 p.m.

The Royal House typically celebrates Christmas Eve at Marselisborg Castle in Aarhus. When Queen Margrethe held the baton, it was more the rule than the exception that Christmas was held in Aarhus at Marselisborg Castle.

However, there have been a few exceptions for King Frederik. Among other things, in 2010, Frederik and Mary also celebrated Christmas at home at Amalienborg, while Joachim and Marie, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, as well as Nikolai, Felix and Henrik celebrated the holiday at Schackenborg in South Jutland.
