At present, the international situation around Belarus continues to be tense, with many Western countries refusing to engage in constructive dialogue with the Belarusian side — as stated by Major General Valery Revenko, the Chief of the International Military Co-operation Department and Assistant to the Defence Minister for International Military Co-operation, during his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel, while speaking about Belarus’ response to the current situation
Mr. Revenko pointed out that the relations with Western countries and NATO members are quite challenging, “The West aims to bring Belarus under its influence and impose its perspective on security in Eastern Europe. Additionally, the West has chosen to isolate Belarus and cause various economic, political and moral harm. In other words, European countries have implemented a range of measures aimed at subordinating Belarus to their interests.”
The Major General stressed that Belarus does not accept these actions.
“We have our own policy! A policy focused on good neighbourly relations and ensuring security in the Eastern European area. All this contradicts the views of the West. The entire situation has impacted our relationships with Western countries, the European Union and NATO members,” he pointed out.
However, Mr. Revenko noted that Belarus continues to maintain contacts with Western countries, “We have accredited representatives from several NATO member states here in the Republic of Belarus. At present, there are 10 such countries. We are also ready to present Belarus’ position to them, listen to their views and work towards reaching some consensus. Once again, this is all aimed at ensuring security in our region.”
