Britons struggling with the cost of living crisis should consider taking on more hours at work or moving to a better job, a minister in Boris Johnson’s government has said.
Home Office minister Rachel Maclean said the government wanted to see people help themselves more in the long-term – arguing that they could use their local job centre in a bid to boost their pay.
Is there a close bus route????
Gen x and below won’t even get a pension…
Conservatives will call that the Dunkirk spirit and will blame young people’s money problems on the unwillingness to adopt such a lifestyle.
I’m happy for this government. Their agenda since Johnson took power has been all about returning to a Britain of the past, and after 3 years we’re finally starting to get there. People are struggling to feed themselves as they did in the immediate post war years, and everyone is rationing electricity like they did in the 1970s miner strikes.
A great success for the objectives of the Johnson Government. I wonder what their next retro-Britain project will be.
I cook once a week as well, put portions in freezer for each day, works well for me.
Can she not just take on more hours at work? or get a better job?
“Growing up, Sandra’s parents had to make sacrifices as money was tight following World War Two and she thinks the current crisis may see a return to the same “make-do and mend” attitude. She told North Wales Live : “For people of my generation, making do with what you’ve got is second nature because we’ve done it for so long. ”
I’m terribly sorry for her situation, but make-do and mend as an attitude for this current crisis is a monumental joke. WW2 I can understand as a setback for all and a crisis that was unaviodable, but lining billionaires pockets with more tax cuts and energy companies having record profits off the back of us all could have been preventable.
She only cooks *in the oven* once a week. She cooks several meals at the same time, and freezes them. Which is probably quite sensible if you live on your own, heating an entire oven to cook one meal for one person is quite extravagant.
It sounds like she cooks on the hob several times a week, and presumably microwaves the frozen food. So a cooked meal every day. No different to someone who eats microwave ready meals all the time, except that her method is cheaper, probably healthier, and probably tastes better.
She sounds very sensible, but I am not sure she has anything to complain about.
Stop voting tory, dumb dumb
It’s currently daylight from before 5am to past 9pm, so I can’t imagine it would cost much for lighting right now? Unless she’s a vampire, in which case this story just got interesting!

Solar lights?! Bloody liberal, why can’t she use good ol’ British coal.
Apparently she should just work more hours or move to a better job
Warms a Tory heart to know she is self-sufficient.
Has she considered getting a job picking cabbages? Get off the dole Doris and dig for Boris!!!
