Why is there this mad rush for passports just before every summer? Am I the only one who roughly remembers when mine ends and that I should renew it at least few months before it is due to expire?
We started renewal last July , took about 4-5 months.
But the couriers were the best . They just threw the new passport and all existing documents incl. other passports on the pavement outside the address next door to the delivery one . Like a piece of rubbish for the street cleaner to pick up.
Lucky it was found
MSM. Cost of living crisis. **Also**…. People might miss their holidays.
What?
Waited in all day, missed, sent out again next day, left with a neighbour. Applied January.
‘lost’?
A passport is worth what these days? £500?
For me from beginning to end it took a few weeks? I must have gotten really lucky or something.
Fuck DX Secure. They just didn’t ring my doorbell on two successive days, then I decided to just go to their warehouse. Could see inside the main building through a big door – there were the contents of packages spilled on the floor everywhere. Went to the passport pickup place, and there was no one there. Rang a bell and waited 10 mins, no luck. In the end I saw my envelope (amongst many others) just inside the window. I reached inside and just took it. What a shitshow.
Oh wait. I thought it was the fault of civil servants working from home. But nope, the private sector fucks us all again.
Everything that has to do with passports is so fucked up – delays, deliveries, the entire concept of having countersignatories that both know you well (at least 2 years!) *and* work in a recognised profession. Why can’t I just ask any friend to sign it, wtf?
I get why delays are happening, in fact, it looks like guys over there in the Passport Office are working 7 days a week, but I certainly don’t get losing or damaging documents (mine arrived crumped in a cheapest envelope that didn’t even have a piece of cardboard to prevent folding). Some of my documents would be a nightmare to restore, if possible at all. This is terrible that they can’t arrange decent delivery (for which we actually pay via passport fees, extra £5 for return and via taxes). I guess it’s again a question of low pay for an essential government job, so it’s not like they would be immensely motivated. I hear a country can have a “government” that is supposed to solve these things. How come we don’t have one?
The country is operated by incompetents from the top to the bottom.
The solution is of course to get rid of 90,000 civil service staff
>Couriers lose hundreds of new passports
Surely advanced end to end tracking would show where these passports are ‘lost’.
If tracking was competent (RFID tagging and/or scanning and the like) they’d isolate issues almost immediately including bottlenecks in the system.
How in 2022 these can be ‘lost’ is well beyond me… we have CCTV/RFID/handheld scanners etc…
I was responsible for country-wide (non UK) Pathogen tracking in 2006…. and we’d know immediately of any loss and isolate the issue. 2006!!!

That sounds awfully coincidental…
