MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp provided an update Monday on Officer Justin Brown, who was critically injured in a crash last month during a security motorcade for Vice President JD Vance.

Brown was seriously injured when his police motorcycle collided with a state trooper’s car near Merrit Road on East Lamar Alexander Parkway on Friday, Nov. 14 when Vance flew to East Tennessee for a fundraiser at Blackberry Farm, according to Crisp.

Crisp said Brown is continuing to make steady progress, adding that he was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon and transferred to a rehabilitation center in Knoxville to continue receiving treatment for the next several weeks.

“Justin and his family are grateful for the support from our community,” Crisp said. “Please continue to keep Justin and his family in your prayers as he continues his road to recovery.”

After the incident, the Maryville Police Department approved a fundraiser for Brown through Blue Line Tennessee. As of Monday, nearly $19,000 has been raised.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
