Airbus hit by new A320 quality problem after software recall • FRANCE 24 English

Airbus is going through a period of turbulence. The company has announced a second issue within 3 days after admitting to a problem affecting software in certain planes. Now, they’ve announced some of their bestselling 320 aircraft have a defect in metal panels found between the cockpit and the passenger entrance. Airbus says the issue has been identified and contained. Airbus is inspecting all the planes that could be affected. Only some of them will need to be subject to modifications. For the unions, it’s a worrying development coming just after 6,000 planes were recalled because of a software issue linked to solar flares. This is not happening by chance. For years, we’ve been raising the alarm about quality control. We don’t have the same quality of worker as we did 10, 15, or 20 years ago. The problem stems from a supplier of metal panels for the aircraft. It risks delaying deliveries at a time when the company has a full order book. As a result, the company’s stock has taken a tumble, closing down by almost 6% in one day. This is probably happening because markets anticipate delivery problems and delays. Airbus will have to compensate the airlines loss in profit costs which could end up in the billions. For Airbus, the 320 represents about 80% of its output annually. More than 600 of the planes were delivered last year.

Airbus is facing another technical issue, a default has been found in some of the metal panels used on its A320 planes. It comes three days after a software fault was found, linked to solar flares.
