its a freaking joke, its not just today or yesterday, its been like that since early April when covid restrictions were lifted.
Been to a good few european and international airports in the meantime and not one single other 1st world country airport is like this. and even not 1st world for that matter

What’s the reason for that?
I was in it this morning, was only 30 minutes to get through security at the time which was only a little bit longer than it took pre-pandemic.
These people obviously didn’t get here 16 hours before the flight and pay priority boarding.
Gawd it’s so easy just pay priority boarding, get there 16 hours before your flight and complain about people not wanting to work anymore whenever you get the chance.
T2 was backed out to the rental car desks around 11am this morning, but it did move. From arriving, to check in, to getting through security took an hour which to be fair isn’t bad.
US Preclearence however was a shit show. If you are travelling state side, show up as early as you can.
Ah, so it has cleared a good bit. Excellent.
Is this only for checking in a case for international flights?
God forbid to start utilise other airports in the country. Cork runway is rolling tumbleweed
Flew out of there today. Absolute embarrassment to the country. Flight cancelled with no email alert. Had to get another flight 3 hours later to a different location. The staff were incredibly rude and underskilled. It’s shocking how far that place has fallen.
Was through Friday morning 8am it wasn’t bad. They hold up people at the electronic gates where you scan your passport to give time for security to catch up. Its pure volume, I can’t see them being understaffed at security.
I flew out of Shannon on Tuesday and Friday. It took sub 5 minutes to get through security each time. While the DAA were laying off staff to save money, Shannon airport were investing money on MRI scanners to make the process even faster.
10 days ago, when I got a flight it was chill. Depending on the hour u see different crowds, sometime not any. Just because u got there at this time doesn’t mean nothing, and its an airport, not a spa. Stop bitching.
Christ I’m flying out of there on Friday, getting there about 3 and a half hours before flight but seeing shit like this makes me think if even that is enough time 😭
I mean choosing between paying staff a good rate and minimum 40 hours for full time and buying your 5th yacht is a pretty easy decision if you are the boss man
Instead of queuing to get a rental property, people are queuing to leave instead.
Reading this the next day as I’m at my gate. Took about 50 minutes to get through security. Followed the advised time of arrival on my boarding pass and I’m now waiting for the past hour and a half for my gate to open. The mad thing is the queues to everything, it’s 5am and I’ve never seen the place this busy. Hard to get a pint or anything, even at your gate.
Any idea will they have sorted their staffing issue buy July? Thought this was all sorted and booked a 6.25 flight to Spain last night 😭
Not as bad as it was over Easter! Worst airport experience ever.
And they also hiked car park prices from €8/day to like €13/day
Glad I chose to stick to Limerick Co for my visit. The airport in Shannon has like…5 terminals? 6? Plane wasn’t even half full.
I was in there Thursday morning and went through security in 2 minutes, literally walked straight up, barely had me belt off and was through. This was around 6.20 am for an 8am flight. It’s mad it can go from almost empty to insanely busy…
If only they were as lax about people leaving the country as they are about people coming back
