For Debbie Stein, the news that her son will lead the Kentucky football program has been indescribable.

She runs the bakery Sissycakes with her sister, Blakey Martin, and said the announcement has business booming.

“Oh, my gosh. It’s absolutely crazy. The orders are exploding, so we’re going to have to turn off the website for a little while because we have a very small kitchen and a small staff, and we are usually able to keep up, but this is just next-level,” Stein said.

Will Stein, currently Oregon’s offensive coordinator, will cut the distance to his family from 2,000 miles to about 70 when the season concludes.

“The whole family is just over the moon. And so excited to have them closer to home,” said Martin. “What an opportunity for him. It’s really, really cool. And we’re so proud.”

Though Will is a former starting quarterback for Louisville, his family “bleeds blue,” and he grew up as a Wildcat fan, so there’s no bad blood as he prepares to start his new head coaching job.

“Not only is he good, [but] he was a good football player,” Martin continued. “He’s a good football coach, but he’s a great person. You know, he’s a great son, a great husband, a great daddy. He’s just a good guy, and we’re really proud of him.”

Stein’s tenure with the Wildcats begins when Oregon’s season ends.

Along with the high-profile job, it has created good problems for his mother’s business.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a big explosion for us, and we’re going to need a bigger place and more ovens and more people to be able to keep up with the demand, because we’re small but growing really well,” Stein said.

The University of Kentucky will officially introduce Will Stein as its new head coach Wednesday afternoon
