Poland has the most potential. Which country has the most wasted potential?

  1. Fuck. It’s us.

Went from owning one quarter of a planet to an isolationist pebble, just because all of our football hooligans *can’t stop* falling for beastern propaganda. Absolute waste.

  2. Portugal, went from owning most of the African coast and having lots of colonies in Asia and South America to being basically hairy Spaniards with a funny accent

  3. Is that even a question? We’re definitely the manifestation of wasted potential.

  4. I’m surprised no one mentioned us. Our gdp was higher than Denmark and Finland and slightly higher than all Balkan countries combined before we enter a financial collapse out of mismanagement. Although our flag is pretty based too if u ask me so maybe we must be included in the next xD

  5. * Big ass country

    * Survived two world wars without major territorial shifts
    * Second most industrialised country in the EU
    * Still has as much debt as Greece

  6. This is a difficult one. It could be us, it could be Italy, it could be the Iberian Pig-bros, but I’m guessing it’s Barry with how things are going over there.

  7. Italy.

Absolutely ridiculous cultural heritage, fantastic collection of cities and gorgeous scenery but it’s just struggling to be competitive.

  8. I mean Germany or England no? Germany is being wasteful in the true sense of the word since they can achieve so much more while England decided to play russian roulette with half of the chambers having bullets.

  9. Could we have both Barry and Hans ? In th end, Barry is just an old exported version of Hans…

  10. The Ol’ Enemy, Perfide Albion. Went from owning half the world to painting english flags on roundabouts.

  11. This is a bit of an oldie, but it’s gotta be Yugoslavia 😐

  12. Literally us. Tapestry of little useless fiefdoms, baronies etc. unified into a nation state well after most european big players have been centralized under one crown for decades, centuries even. Arrived late to the colonization game, too. But in merely half a century we turned into an economic, military and political powerhouse on the european stage. Just to waste it away – not even blaming WW1, that was inevitable, but to waste it away by giving a failed austrian painter power.

After that, propped by the Allies, we got our Wirtschaftswunder, and once again turned into a technological economic powerhouse, that went on to lead the EU. What do we do with it? Waste it away by once again electing the most talentless hacks of politicians we can find, waste away our potential by getting out of Nuclear just to blast coal into the atmosphere or sucking off Putin for r*ssian gas, waste away our potential by autistically loving Kafkaesque bureaucracy, waste away our potential by pandering to old decrepit boomers for decades.

It has to be Germany. We’re one black hole of wasted potential. I bet hundreds of years from now, historians will name us as the biggest failed nation there is, worse than the crumbled empires of Spain or Great Britain, worse than the long fallen beautiful empires like Persia or Eastern Rome, worse than once thriving great powers like Austria-Hungary or the Franks.

  13. It is obviously us. The fall of empires like Portugal and Britain is not only inevitable, but desirable.

We, on the other hand, fucked up a unique head start on what ended up being one of the most important technologies in the world, and we have no one to blame but ourselves. From that high point it is nothing but steady degeneration to this day.

  14. What’s the timeline here? If it’s in the thousands of years, then the most hilarious answer is definitely 🇬🇷

  15. Italy #3 eu power yet doesn’t even contribute as much as Jan and is actively following the Argentina path.

The fact that it’s better to work in Poland than Italy is absurd but it’s a reality

  16. The UK by a mile.

Destroyed every potential they had with an unending string of completely moronic choices and turns since 1945.

    – Car industry? Killed!
    – shipbuilding? Killed!
    – free trade? Killed!
    – electronics? Killed!
    – was there a way to close the mines in a more catastrophic and hurtful way? Doubtful.

It just goes on and on.

Now they censor your Facebook posts and send 50kg 1.50m girlscouts to arrest you if you dont have a license for your meme. An utter disgrace and the prime example of the saying: the victors of ww2 lost the cold war.

  17. Spain

Imagine how much they could achieve if they wouldn’t sleep all day.

  18. Any of the PIGS but I think Italy takes the cake

  19. For this, I would put the EU itself. Hear me out:

Post approved by european patriot and federalist. 🐐🇪🇺✔️👍🏻

    – the fact that single states get listed instead of whole EU proves my point

    – it has very large and educated population

    – has a bunch of very good universities and strong institutions

    – has enormous potential to be rivalling USA and China

    – it absolutely has the scale, yet we don’t have any effects of scale like US does. Our stocks market aren’t even unified

    – some stupid cleptomaniacs from East can fuck up way too much. Talking about Hungary, Slovakia and Poland before

    – almost 50% of EU startups that achieve success go to USA

    – almost half of money invested by EU citizens was invested in US market (before Trump)

    – extremely rich cultural heritage

    – yet, we don’t have an easy unified business law

    – we are absolutely militarily dependent on the USA

    – we have no big tech

    – we slept through the digital revolution and probably will miss AI train as well

    – China and USA treat us like their bitches

    – Absolute horror of EU beurocracy

    – Russia spreading disinformation, dissident, far right and funds separatists – Catalonia was given a lot of money by Russia

    – every country does Nash Equilibrium (instead of benefiting all of us, each country tries to work for themselves, making our diplomacy difficult to say the least). I’m talking about you France

    – the only nuclear power is France, who are very cunty about using nuclear power

    – Germany is a sloth with fucked up energy system

    – Our GDP is almost 10x of Russia, yet we can’t support Ukraine more – with their population, rare earth metals, uranium, soil being able to feed 450mln of people we are missing out on a lot

    – EU tries the restarted chat control bullshit

    – We overpay a lot for us military goods,

    – We can be cut out of existence if us forces its big tech to screw us over

    – We were keeping up with US economy up to 2008, then we fumbled the bag badly

    – THERE WAS LITERALLY A DECLASSIFIED DOCUMENT FROM US INTELLIGENCE TALKING ABOUT KEEPING GERMANY DOWN BY MAKING THEM DEPENDENT ON US MILITARILY, SO THAT THEY WON’T BECOME THEIR RIVALS. NOW IMAGINE WHOLE EU

  20. As a neutral, it is between Italy and Germany, but I give it to Germany

    Italy:
So much culture, skill, intelligence and talent, bogged down by a weak state, corruption, plutocratic interests and mismanagement

I mean, they had a miracle  moment between the 50s and 70s, but the “you need to know someone to do anything”, the weak state and slow justice, the corruption/mafia, low trust and many other factors keeps slowing italy down

    Germany:
Finally unites. Put one of the worst psychotic asshole in history in power, tries to industrially delete a people.
What a great use of political, military and industrial might….

Fast forward: Germany united and powerful again. Takes emotional irrational decisions again, gets bogged down by shitty politicians. Stops nuclear power plants to build coal plants. Is scared to take any stance, slow to give support to Ukraine, or hesitating to commit to any cause. Build itself into dependence to Russian gas on purpose being naive, refuses to evoke even the slightest bit of criticism to Israel, while they should recognize better than anyone when a society is drifting towards a dark direction, and believe naively that closing their eyes is the right thing to do.
Could be a champion of EU and the european way going forward. Instead they lead with the charisma of a wet old pudding. Merkel could have used Germany’s influence to make something greater of the UE and helping fix some of its structural problems, instead we got a weak ass lukewarm maintaining “status quo”, and being “pro european” on surface, but often favouring Germany and not taking bold steps when it could have mattered, on fiscal policy, industrial policy or security
