    Donald Trump is caught between a rock and a hard place.

    The rock, which is vast and apparently unable to move, is Russia. The hard place is Ukraine, and the European countries standing resolutely beside it.

    The US president had promised to settle the war within 24 hours of taking office, later extending that to 100 days.

    But it has now been some 317 days since his second inauguration, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine [shows no signs of slowing](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/12/03/ukraine-russia-war-latest-news-peace-deal-talks/).

    The US president has flirted with both punishing Moscow and Kyiv for obstructing his attempts to settle the almost four-year war.

    With Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner [returning to Washington without a deal](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/12/02/witkoff-kushner-meet-putin-moscow/), a decision will have to be made over what comes next from an American perspective.

    The pending choice will cause both angst in European capitals and Moscow, as politicians and officials wait for Mr Trump’s answer.

  3. What does abandon Ukraine mean?
    Financially Trump has never contributed.
    Military equipment is bought and paid by Europe, that goes to Ukraine.
    Can’t imagine him saying “no” to European money for American jobs in the future either.

    So that leaves intelligence sharing? The US is getting good training for it’s potential war with China over Taiwan, without any risks. Why stop that?

  5. Trying to think like the selfish greedy bastard, I don’t understand why he doesn’t feel that he may have an opportunity to lay his claws in the Russian oil? Of course the genocidal greedy bastard knows that such risk is very real but I don’t get how in having about everything in favor, the first of them doesn’t go all berserk on the second.

    Does my rant make any sense, or am I lost already?

  6. I mean as long as they still sell military gear to Europe to give to Ukraine and share intelligence this is really a best case scenario…

  9. His plan all along… either he succeeded to push Ukraine into a peace deal that clearly favoured the aggreSSor, in which case he would get to squeal and squark he should have had the noble peace prize for stopping all the wars in the world.

    If unsuccessful, he gets to withdraw and appease those who squark and squeal that it isn’t their war, because the US post WWII wasn’t meant to be the leader of the feee world, right?

  13. So back to start, where he claims he is done with the topic and US doesn’t mediate anymore and we have a few weeks of peace, until he returns to haunt Ukraine again?

    Assuming he doesn’t spitefully ease sanctions or something 

  15. US makes alot of money from war and reconstruction. He will stop giving free stuff Ukraine will just withdraw from rare earths deal? If he does he is turning away from profit which would indicate he is being compensated by someone.

  18. Putin’s strength is Trumps weakness. If Trump did the right thing by recognizing the majority of Americans support Ukraine, Putin would be castrated. There is Ukrainian blood on Trump hands and history will judge Trump unfavorably

  19. Russia is not willing to hand over enough resources to Trump and his friends? He couldn’t care less about the people dying in Ukraine. A settlement of this issue for Trump will be how much money he can personally make.

  23. Oh boy, here we go again. We’re at the abandoning part again. Then he will change his mind and support Ukraine. Then he will try another “peace talks”. The peace plan his administration will propose will again be a capitulation plan drafter by russia. Everyone will critique it again, russia will say they don’t agree to it and he will tell that he will abandon Ukraine again.

    UE needs to pump up the arms production so that we can finally abandon schizophrenic Trump and his people.

  24. More concerning for us Americans and Europe, it looks like he’s moving to abandon NATO. Report today is he’s freezing out Germany from military discussions. Fuck all of that.

  30. Isolation has never been good for any country, but hiding is absolutely Trump’s style, especially since he’s constantly in and out of hospital.
