This is confusing. We got parking, cycle lane, car traffic lane and yes I’m on the bus which uses the same lane. Not to mention two confusing parking signs.

Pay and display parking to the left of the sign, in operation from 7am – 12.30pm, Monday to Saturday. No parking whatsoever is permitted however between the hours of 7 – 10am and 12.30 – 7pm, Monday – Saturday.
The pay and display probably should just say it runs from 10-12.30. My guess, however, is that the second clear way sign that prohibits parking between 7-10 and 12.30-7 is new.
But you’re right. Way too many signs here. Absolutely no need for two poles. One would have done the job and would be far clearer.
Also it’s a shit cycle lane that begins/ends at a parking space.
Yet another sign blocking the pavement will sort this confusion said no one ever, yet here we are.
Must be a golden age for signage
A perfect microcosm of the complete mess that is urban design in Dublin
That bike lane is the most useless thing ever. There’s parking spaces all the way down the road and they decided to put a “bike lane” going through them. But the spaces are always full so you can never use it
Jesus this is like bullshit bingo.
Totally agree. Pole and sign clutter is out of hand and unnecessary in so many instances. There should be a rule if they want to put up a new pole then take down two somewhere else.
Why can’t they attach signs to the lampost, rather than hoofing in 3 pointless other signs into the path?
That’s not really a bike lane though that’s just a lick of paint on the road.
It’s the big signa at it again
I would have to stop, get out and study those signs before I’d know what I’m gonna get fined for
Needed to park on this exact street the other night. I found the signs so confusing I just went down a side road that had definite parking bays.
Makey uppy road design
It’s reasonably clear. There are two consecutive clearways.
Up to the first sign,it’s paid parking from 0700 to 1230,and a clearway from 1230 to 1900.
This clearway ends here. Then the next clearway starts which is from 0700 to 1000 and 1230 to 1900.
As another example – and you see this all over – you have roads/streets where they paint the line down the middle first and then paint parking spaces on one side or a double yellow on the other meaning you have 1 normal lane and one lane which is barely usable.
Never mind the sign close enough to the spire that we can point people to it, but it’s also close enough to the M50 that it’s necessary to direct motorists there?
that’s what happen when all your talents emigrates
If you cycle in west or north dublin, or even the city center, you really quicly realise that cycle lanes were a box ticking exercise implemented by politicians that have never cycled in town in their lives. The ones that do cycle must come up from the southside where cycling is generally a lot safer.
Youve already pointed out the obvious but other thoughtful features include the road becoming a LUAS track and you’ve to chose between not being able to get out of cars way and cycling on the pavement. Then we have vans parking on double yellows every single day on the DCC’s doorstep, to which nobody bats an eye. Then theres also potholes, and utility covers that werent fitted flush with the road that can catch your wheel.
Road markings in general are too confusing in Ireland.
One of my pet peeves is sections of Blackrock to Ballsbridge (though likely the same everywhere) – 4 lanes, two each way. Left lane is a bus lane and has a solid line separating it from the other same direction lane of traffic. Centre road line is then dashed only…It makes it look like a 3-1 configuration.
Then tiny speed limit signs placed right at the junction instead of 20-30 metres down the road. Good luck seeing them as you come out of a roundabout or around a corner.
Crossings have a light or sometimes no extra sign. It should be a massive yellow thing.
Bus stop boxes painted on the road. Just unnecessary visual clutter amongst the road markings.
Drove in and out of Dublin last week.
For a country boy like myself it was truly traumatising.
I’m convinced literally
#NO ONE
understands these lane layouts.
Either that or they are blissfully ignored by everyone.
