  6. As a white dude, my jaw dropped when I read, “…the author allegedly fired at the suspect and then pointed her gun at officers and refused to lower it when asked”

    That has got to be one of the better perks of being white. I can point a gun at the cops after firing it and they ask me to lower it instead of just shooting me.

    EDIT: Hate doing these but apparently I didn’t word this well because a LOT of people very quickly missed my point. The fact that she was eventually shot isn’t something I ignored. It’s that she actually got a request/demand to lower her weapon first, a privilege a lot of people (perhaps more often people of certain racial/ethnic backgrounds) are probably given less often. They JUST get shot. See the “just” there?

    I think this has more to do with it. Likely separating themselves legally due to the costs of cancer treatment. Instead of bankrupting the family and leaving everyone with the debt, it could stick to her solely, but the divorce terms would also leave her in a position where she isn’t left holding the bag, as any alimony or child support could not be claimed in bankruptcy. Smart.

  17. The privilege of still being alive after shooting someone them pointing the gun at the cops is not something I could ever dream of experiencing being a non white male in the US.
